I usually say Happy Holidays to people just because I prefer it and that's what everyone in my family always said. If they say Merry Christmas or Happy Channukah back to me I just say thank you and keep it moving. But it seems without fail I get the "People are so PC these days it's Merry Christmas" rant from others and I'm about to stop wishing people well altogether. When did it even become a big deal whether a person said Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?
It's that time of year again

Since the minorities became the majority.

I don't know where you live but that sounds terrible (humorous, in a sense)

Most of the US is Christian, but I'm jewish so I do prefer if people say "Happy holidays" to me, as it seems to me that they acknowledge that other holidays exist not just Christmas. I'm not offended if someone tells me "Merry Christmas", but it does annoy me just a tiny bit (around 3%-10%).

Man, you people worry over the saddest little things
What do you mean by 'you people', eh?

The blacks.
Edit: And the gays.
Edit edit: Oh, and the goddamn jews, too.

It depends on what they say to me (if they say anything.) If they say "Merry Christmas" I reply with the same. If it's "Happy Holidays" I reply with that.

I feel the same way. Like you never know what they celebrate so I just say happy holidays.
Another thing that's really awk is when people say Happy Kwanzaa to me. Nobody celebrates Kwanzaa, wtf.

It's cause you're black and they're insensitive. *zsnap*

I hate making that choice, but mostly because I am just socially awkward in general. Having to choose between "hi," "hello" and "good morning" is difficult enough. Like, if someone says "hello" to me, and I say "hello" back, that makes me bit of copycat, doesn't it? I have to pick a different one in the same politeness level, or compensate with different emphasis "good MORNING!". On top of that, worrying about the chance that someone will be personally offended about happy holidays or merry christmas just makes my head want to explode. :'(
I honestly do the copy-cat thing too >w< It's just easier and you won't have to worry if they get upset because they said it. At around christmas(24,25) time I say Merry Christmas. If its before that time then I just say Happy Holidays. Just to include everyone's other holidays XD

I did remember to say happy thanksgiving a few times, though.
But outside of work, I generally don't talk to strangers. Y'all are just a bunch of oddballs, not strangers.

Why not be PC if it means you don't need to keep track of the dates of all the holidays around this time of year?

I don't really tell people anything. I might post Merry Christmas on FB or reply Merry Christmas to all those Merry Christmas texts I get on Christmas but that's about it. I find Christmas is getting more annoying each year with it's rude interruption into Halloween and Thanksgiving. Let's not give thanks. Let's just buy stuff for ourselves and others to make ourselves feel better. Pretty messed up.
^ This. My roommate has been listening to Christmas music and watching Christmas movies since before Halloween. *twitch*

Agree. I had to start singing carols in choir last year as soon as November started. 2 whole months of nothing but singing carols. Makes you never want to hear another christmas carol in your life ever again. It becomes just that annoying. Then there's the people who put up decorations way to early and don't take them down until it's into February. Pretty soon Halloween and Thanksgiving won't even be holidays anymore. We'll have kids dressing up as elves and Santa on Halloween. And the Christmas decorations won't ever be taken down once their put up.
