How does TNT know that an account is hacked/shared?

I'm assuming that they consider accounts that are signed on from two different locations as hacked or shared. They end up freezing you for 'your own protection'.But in an editorial they said that they understand people use neopets on school computers, grandma's house, etc. So how would they determine that an account is hacked or being shared, and not just being used at different places by the same user?

How would we know what TNT do behind the scenes to detect these things?

I know it's impossible to know for sure, but I was just looking for theories.

I bet they do it on a whim ,and they only take action to increase their community interaction/make it seem like they are actually doing their job responsibility. On a serious note, like waser lave said, they will probably never release their methods to the public willingly.

IP address do play a part but a big one is suspicious activity like transferring a bunch of items to another account not related to the account which has been hacked.

They probably only do the "Protection Freezes" if your account is signed in from an IP in California then suddenly signs in from an account in New York (like...2 minutes after sining out in Calli).

Or signed in from an IP in the US then suddenly pops in from China.

I agree with Ivysaura, I've been frozen for protection when I was actually sharing an IP with a whole dorm though :angry Still waiting on that ticket. But in general they seem to pick apart hackers pretty easily

I think it depends on what you do on your account when you log in per location.. If you suddenly log into your account at a local place and decide to sell or give away all your stuff.. They'll probably think you're a hacker..

I logged into many places on my accounts, and never got frozen... But my other friend decided to log in at a public internet cafe or something and sold a lot of her stuff, and sent her neopoints and a neopet to her side account and it was frozen the next day ><'

I've moved back and forth between the US and UK a few years ago and the accounts I used never got frozen! If you're worried about it, don't log into the account for a few days/week or so, then update the area info to match where you currently are (I dunno if TNT even cares about this though, I've used the wrong area info for ages and nothing has happened)~

I think Turnip is right. It could be a good idea to be carefull with trades & selling items and so on the first 3-4 weeks.
