There's no reason for them to be slower or faster really. Unless you've got a gigantic list.

I was under the impression they would be minimally faster using a manual list

This manual list is BIG, that's the only reason it might be slower than a customized list for a specific shop. But seriously, iterating through a list is one of the quickest operations abrosia does... not going to make a huge difference.
