I've been living in Guatemala for nearly a year. My day job here is that of an ESL Teacher. Yes, I am literally paid to be a grammar nazi on a daily basis. Those of you whom I'm slightly better acquainted with know that I'm also working to start my own brand/communications design business down here.

I made this thread as a way to show and tell you what living here is like. I've decided to start this in Arts & Graphics because each post will be accompanied by one to several photographs. I'll update this at least once a week, but probably more frequently.

ABOVE - We are approaching Holy Week (Semana Santa) here in Antigua. This picture is of decorative art called an alfombra. An alfombra is made of flowers, plants, and colored sawdust. They take anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours to make depending on the complexity of the design.

    Antigua!!
    I'm jealous!

Is that where you're teaching? Where else have you been? Guasatoya? San Marcos? Have you been to Puerto Barrios?

Yes, that's where I live and work. I think you mean Guastatoya? I haven't been there yet, but I'm planning on going soon. I've been to San Marcos (both la Laguna and the larger city) and Puerto Barrios. I've been all over the country and down through each country in Central America except for Panama.

I love El Salvador. I would live there except I can make much more money here in Guatemala. I go down there usually once a month to go surfing. Here's a photo of my buddy out on the water during one of our previous trips.

WOW Nick!! that picture is daamn nicee, did you and your friend like El Salvador? Hope both of you enjoyed the trip :D

Even if your friend like longboarding here in El Salvador we got plenty of spots, or spots where you reach 80+km/h I think is nice for a small country :), James Kelly and Louis Pilloni really enjoyed longboarding here! Saludos!!

Yeah xD I dunno why I misspelled it xD
    It's lovely~

My mother is from San Marcos so when I do go, I spend a lot of time in Malacatán.
My father's family lives in a small town near Puerto Barrios named Tenedores (:

Nice! I love Central America. My origins are from Nicaragua and I've visited before and it's really something. Last time I went it was right before Semana Santa so there were a lot of festivities going on in the streets.

These photos are quite beautiful. I can't wait to see more, especially with Good Friday and Easter around the corner!

Thank you very much. I work until Wednesday but I plan on photographing Good Friday and Easter (or the resurrection as it's called here).

"Float" es el traducción. Claro que si.

"Throne" en ingles es como una sia por los reyes.

An alfombra being created at 2:30 AM. On the Thursday before good Friday, everyone in Antigua gathers in the streets to create these carpets (alfombras) before the processions begin at 5:00 AM. Many are very complicated, and this one is only average. I'll be posting more soon.
