Google honored Cesar Chávez with a doodle Sunday on the 86th anniversary of his birthday, drawing nationwide attention to the Latino civil rights leader and sparking a backlash among those upset with the company for taking a pass on Easter.

Latino groups invoke Chávez as an inspirational figure, though many criticize him for viewing undocumented workers as a threat to unions. President Barack Obama proclaimed March 31 as Cesar Chávez Day in 2011.

But the decision to honor Chávez infuriated many religious people and conservative publications who wondered by Google didn’t honor Easter instead. Conservative blog Twitchy blasted Google for featuring the image of Chávez and praised Bing for posting an image of Easter eggs.

But the best part of this whole thing are all the people who don't know the difference between Cesar Chavez and Hugo Chavez.

I can't even laugh at this.

Wait, religious people acting apparently irrationally? Never saw that coming.

It's the business of big-name Christians to react excessively to minor incidents. It makes them money.

    They don't really care.

I don't believe them for a second when they say theyre switching to Bing. We all know Bing is the inferior search engine.

How about you cite some sources to back up your claim?

My anecdotal evidence seems to support their claim.

What is this, today, Google didn't even bother to honour April Fools Day with a doodle! Oh no!!

Google has made enough Easter eggs without having a doodle though anyway ;)

They would have just gotten angry Google used a bunny instead of a zombie-Jesus. What kind of Christians were hanging around bloging about this stupid shit instead of celebrating the resurrection of Christ anyway? *spits on the ground*

All brown people look the same, not surprised people are getting two Chavez's mixed up.

I did see one article that makes a scandalous claim about how if you search for "Jesus" in the google doodles, zero results show up.
    http://www.google.com/doodles/search
But it's the same if you search for "Buddha". When you search for "Muhammad", a poet is the only result. There are no relevant results for "God" either. Sadly, "Hades", "Satan", and "Lucifer" don't bring up any doodles, either. How can we honor what's pure and sacred without the dark and unholy? THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

Bing only used pictures of eggs and they got praised for it. I thought eggs were a pagan thing but whatever, facts don't matter.

I don't understand how I'm supposed to follow a religion  if there's no Google doodle to validate it for me.

How about you cite some sources to back up your claim?

The simple fact that Google doesn't have to pay to air commercials to tell people to use their search engine. BECAUSE THEY'RE GOOGLE. Come at me when Bing has a self driving car.

I'm going to pretend this is a rhetorical question. I have no idea what is has to do with this thread. Please feel free to elaborate.

"RT @dcbigjohn: whom ever at google did the Cesar Chavez Day thing should teach a phd class in trolling christian conservatives" <-- my favorite
