Let's get real, here.

You know it's serious when Mishelle and I agree.

Totally in support of gay marriage, 100%.

And in terms of elevating a civil union to equate that of a marriage, that sounds very much like the "seperate but equal" stance that the United States took in terms of the equality of blacks and white. Yeah sure everyone had schools to go to and water fountains to drink from, just as long you were going to the right school and drinking from the right fountain.

By giving leverage to hate we're allowing it to prosper and spread. Allowing a religioujs belief to dictate the equality of someones life and relationship really seems entirely backwards.

Yes, why should anyone have the right to tell someone they're not allowed to get married. No human should have to fight for their rights.

Support, always have done, there's a lot of LGB people in my family, so I've never seen why it was such an issue until I had it explained (that it goes against some religions). By a technicality, I'm in a same-sex relationship and I wouldn't mind the idea of marrying my partner in future if they're cool with it, so yeah.

I actually don't have any strong feelings for this issue. I guess as long as they're happy getting married why should I care? I know the hell that is marriage, let them join me in my misery! :p

I'm lesbian, so it's obvious I agree with it. The point of marriage is being able to have the same civil rights. I don't vote for religious marriage because I understand some religions like catholicism still see it as a sin, but maybe in a few years it will become more... "acceptable"? The pope is already changing the view of the church so I'm hopeful. <3

I am not a fan of marriage at all, but if people feel like, why not. Gender shouldn't play a role.

I;m not a huge proponent of it, just because once we change the definition of marriage, I think it will continue to change. The reason I am no super for it is because it has been defined as a man and women. People say "who is to stop consenting adults?" But then I feel we will open the door for polygamy. Are you guys cool with that or no? Honest question.

Marriage has changed dramatically over the course of time, why is now any different? Are you ok with women being treated as property, because that was what marriage was for the vast majority of time?

That was not the definition of marriage though (also, no of course I don't agree with women being treated as property)... Gender rights were a separate argument. In certain cultures/subcultures it was insinuated that when you were married you pretty much owned your wife, but that was never the legal definition in the majority of the civilized world.  But seriously, how does everyone feel about polygamy?

Erm, have you studied history? Marriage was used for centuries as a trading negotiation between rich and powerful families. Women were seen as commodities to be bought and used.

Besides it doesn't matter what the definition is, we continue to evolve and adapt to our surroundings and sociological improvements.

Polygamy is no issue. What consent adults do is their own business. If they want to get married, let them.

I'm fine with polygamy as long as everyone involved is all right with the circumstances they agreed on. It's when people are forced into it that I have problems with it.

It used to be illegal to marry someone who was not the same race as you.

You're gay and you want to marry? Go right ahead! I think a lot of anti-gay marriage people are just... Crazy religious. No, allowing gay marriage won't make everyone else turn gay, that's completely stupid and there's no evidence to back that up. I believe in a secular society, and religious matters should always be separated from the government... So yes, I support gay marriage because it's a human right to be able to marry who you love, regardless of their identification.

Are you serious? Even if "open the door for poligamy" was the case why is this a problem if everybody involved is okay with it? I'm lesbian but I can't marry a woman because the "definition" of marriage is a man and a woman? Let's talk about interracial marriage not being legal in the USA until 1967.

I don't care if your religion says that I can't be with the person I want, or if I can't drink tea, or can't dress purple. IT'S. YOUR. RELIGION. You should be able to believe in what suits YOU and not try to make everybody do the same. I hate yellow, but I'm not trying to make this color be banished. You don't like gay people? Don't marry one. You don't like yellow? Don't use this color. It's pretty simple.

I was honestly wondering if you guys were ok with polygamy. I feel, even more after this thread, that polygamy will be the next step after gay marriage. That honestly worries me. But I guess I am the only one uncomfortable with polygamy. But, I mean, I am not wicked passionate about it, you know?

Why does making you uncomfortable have anything to do with its legality?

While gay marriage is the same as a hetero-sexual marriage in many ways, I still support. Your either gay or your not, and if your gay, why should you not be able to express yourself? If a guy wants to marry a car, i'm all for it. Let people be free, instead of enslaved under social laws.

Using "your" incorrectly 3 times in one sentence is ruining your argument more than saying "gay marriage should be as legal as marrying inanimate objects."
