Anyone notice that the prices of elite BD weapons seems to be dropping? Example: Sword of Reif used to go for 10.5, now you will be lucky to sell it for 10.2. PCCs used to go for 11.5m, now it is ~10.3m. LEVs were 45m one year ago, and now they are 36m or so.

What's the cause of this? It can't be the ending of the Tyrannian war, because the current prices are lower than even before the Tyrannian war started.

I don't think it's neccessarily battle items, I think its neopian wide deflation in that neopets (TNT) is trying everything they can to deflate everything.

I don't think it is TNT's fault. The prices of those BD weapons sold in the HT have remained the same, so why is the "street price" dropping?

The current BD has killed and hardcore battling. You don't need a super-set to beat 1p opponents since there are no HP increase nor HSTs. Majority of veteran battlers don't bother beyond their daily BD prizes. The current system doesn't encourage to get a uber-set.

    tl:dr; Less demand, lower prizes.

Ain't nobody wants to invest lotsa neopoints in boring BD.

Probs the costs of BD items may increase slightly when the BD will have opponents with increasing HP like the previous BD.

People have lost interest in BD so it's much harder to sell. BD has become another boring daily chore. Plus they haven't fixed the Defenders of Neopia yet. There isn't much incentive to go all out on a great BD set.

TNT broke the BD, therefore the weapons prices are deflating as people lose interest.

If they ever decide to fix it to user's liking (HP increase + whatever else) I'm sure the weapon's prices will recover.

Pardon me but how does the HP increase make it popular? I can get behind the idea that the opponent 'scales' in a sense, but i don't see the point of beating chia clown for 1000 times. Maybe a series of awards would help to boost its popularity, like trophies for 'beating so-and-so for xxx times'

There was 1p High Score Tables in the old BD, though no trophies. Increased difficulty (HP) made it possible to run 1p wars which were quite popular among the BD guilds.

Personally, I've never tried the old BD before but I have to agree that the current BD holds no challenge at all and thus directly deflated the need of getting a 1337 set for battling. I wish they would implement some challenge back into the BD since I'm trying to get a set for it.

I believe there's just too many in circulation and the supply is growing greater vs. the demand.

This is not good for us.

Well, I guess I should hoard some cheap BD weapons in anticipation of TNT fixing the BD to make it better? They did promise that they are not done with it! :)

They also promised that Lutari Island would be back very shortly after they 'polish it up a bit' and of course there is always their promise to bring Coco Roller back as well.

We see how quickly we got those promises fulfilled. ;)

Both of those were inherently flawed anyway though, they were designed for a completely different mobile internet era. I do think Neopets will eventually promote more mobile aspects though (if they don't move in that direction then they're stupid and I don't think they're stupid if there's money to be made :p).

They've been losing money in the mobile market for years.

Personally I'd make those mobile features a Neopets Premium feature.

They've never really had a mobile market for Neopets, they tried it with the Lutari Island thing but mobile internet wasn't really particularly popular back then and they restricted it to US players only so it failed miserably.

Right but since then we've seen a strong growth in the mobile market, they could have easily at any point for the last 3-5 years been making bank off a simple mobile application.

Look at all those little game apps that get thousands of people spending $10+ weekly. Those games came from no fan base, whereas Neopets already has a very strong fan base. The differences in income I feel would be dramatic. So that's what I meant by they're losing money in the mobile market for years. They could be making bank if they just capitalized on a viable cross-platform on a pretty much open market.

Hmm, 4 years... lets say 2000 players spend 2 bucks on the app or whatever the fuck each week for those for years... (most likely VERY VERY far from an actual correct idea of how many people would spend money on it, probably heaps more)... but I'd say 2 bucks from 2k roughly players each week for 4 years would be quite a decent amount of money.,.. I actually expected an app long ago. I find it literally STUPID that they've not got 1 out yet...

Neopets has barely changed over the years. Neopets is one of the last companies I would expect to something drastic such as developing a mobile platform :/

To be fair, the folks at neopets aren't the most business savvy bunch

If neopets released an app that gave access to a new daily or something, and priced it as low as 99 cents even, they would make a lot of money. Or if they're greedier than that, app-exclusive NC Mall products.

    Clearly.

They could single handedly fund all of the mobile departments (management, programming, graphics, content & ideas) and hire a whole crew to handle tickets that are paid quite lucratively if they had a bad mobile app and these days... that's hard to pull off making a bad app.

It's a great idea for Neopets to expand their business to mobile apps, since almost everyone has an iPhone/Android phone nowadays. I even know some friends that spend hundreds on mobile apps per month and that's an understatement.

They tried expanding into mobile phones with that luntari app thing. It turned out to be a bust, but that may have just been timing, around then smartphones weren't so widespread, and many people weren't willing to buy a new phone just to play a little bit more of neopets.
