One family spent $100,000 on Beanie Babies, hoping that “investing” in them would pay off and put their kids through college.

The only trouble?

We all know how valuable Beanie Babies are these days.

Now Chris Robinson is directing a short documentary called “Bankrupt by Beanies” about  his family’s Beanie Babies fiasco.

Oh man this reminds me of my great aunt she used to have a shopping cart full of beanie babies that no one was allowed to touch. I dont know if she still has them.

So does/did anyone here ever collect beanie babies?

I remember you could get the little ones with McDonalds Happy Meals back in the day which a lot of people seemed to collect. It's probably never really a good idea to invest heavily in an item which was hugely mass produced, cheap and easily counterfeited though. :p

This touristy resort town about three hours where I live, this candy shop has their walls filled with Beanie Babies, and I was scared they might cave in on me.

People think that ANYTHING that's collectible is going to be worth thousands in the future. It's insane.

I used to collect beanie babies when I was little.  They are now squashed inside boxes and buried inside my garage.  They will probably never see daylight again.  But in my defence, I never bought them when I was little as an 'investment'.  I bought them because I liked them, and I think they served their purpose.

I bought them because I liked them, not because I thought I could get a profit. My dad on the other hand...poor guy. Least it was not 100K.

This is the right attitude. I have a ton of Monster High Dolls in their original packaging. Don't care if they increase in value. They'll probably end up in the hands of my kids or my sisters' kids.

I've never been a fan of stuffed animals in any degree, though. They gather dust so easily.

Same thing especially ones handled by kids. My brother used to take his stuffed animals and drag them along the walls.

That's crazy, my best friend in Primary school had loads but no idea where she's put them now, probably in the attic, I had one and her dad bought me it because he was buying her one at the time.

That's me now. I gave all those beanies away save a few, but they are shoved deep inside a cedar chest only to see the light of day when I am looking for something.

And those dolls look pretty cool.
