Well, yes, one is a verb, and the other is an adjective that describes the state of performing the verb. Since you can't thank without an object of the thanks, you can't be thankful without an object for the thanks.

I talk to inanimate objects often.

I think usually thankfulness involves thanking God or karma or something though.

I think you're misunderstanding why I'm saying "object". Grammatically, not colloquially.

Well, there's my problem. Those things don't exist.

Can you be thankful to something like circumstance?

Or probability?

I suppose you could, but it'd still be utterly meaningless because those things don't have independent agency.

Wouldn't the object be yourself? (grammatically.) (Actually I guess technically people who aren't you since you don't do thankfulness)

No. You would be the subject; you would be the "thing" doing the thanking.

I always think they sound the wrong way around. Surely the subject should be the thing "subjected" to the verb. Probably something to do with the bloody Greeks.

I'm thankful that everyone thinks Joe is such an ass because I get him all to myself ^_^

But seriously, I am thankful this year is almost over. It has been both the hardest and best year of my life, and I am ready for it to be over.

Ironically all Americans (cept the ones almost wiped out) are of British and European descent.

I'm thankful for:

  • Daniel, he puts up with so much of my shit. I have an attitude, I make mistakes, sometimes I am a hypocrite and I don't show him the love he deserves but always expect it from him. Somehow he still loves me and tolerates me despite it all and I'm glad because I'd be pretty fucking useless without him.
  • My children who have taught me just as much as I have taught them. I've learned patience, love, to let the little things go (you know, don't cry over spilled milk, literally.)
  • My family! All 3 of my brothers are always a phone call away and my youngest brother has been my absolute best friend our entire lives. The boys and my parents and grandparents all show my little family a tremendous amount of support. When we're struggling they are always there to pick us up, dust us off, and send us back down the road of epic awesome amazingness.

I guess I don't understand how imported black people are different than imported white people.
