Couldn't you just install it on a virtual machine and packet sniff it anyway? As long as the data being sent is the same then it should be fine.

Yep, same thing - as long as the HTTP request headers are *exactly* the same then you'll get the result.

The only way that you wouldn't get the same is if they were serving up different pages depending on IP address as Kway says:

The IP address will still lead back to a mobile service provider.

But I seriously doubt that neopets would serve different content based on IP address, that wouldn't be very logical... And remember -- most mobile service providers here in the UK provide both a USB dongle running over 3G/LTE and a sim card.

There is no way they'd have a reliable way of knowing what device is being used if the requests sent out are identical.

I imagine most people also use Wi-Fi when available, rather than their data allowance, in which case the IP would just show up as a regular broadband connection. So yeah, it wouldn't really make sense for them to alter pages based on IP.

I really didn't like their idea of doing this app.

I mean, they already have enough problems with the site, and imagine how many there will be with this.

They should have dealt with the bigger problems and then went to improving.

    ^ like what problems??

i really like this idea a lot and i think it was a really good move for TNT and i'm excited. i voted for neopets go because neopets mobile is really easy to confuse with the OLD neopets mobile. (lutari island and whatnot)

That fact that "Neopets On-The-Go" is even an option proves that they're still stuck in 2007.

I feel it's a case of too little, too late for this one. They have missed the chance on Mobile applications and are trying to jump in and swim for the sailing ship they failed to notice leaving. I agree though, it does look neat from the preview video, but how much will it revive the Neopets phenomenon? I guess only time will tell....

    Agreed.

It could generate some interest from people who like to play a lot of games on their phones or people who used to play but don't have a lot of time. Guess we'll see when it's actually released. I'm just hoping it isn't a huge flop and proves to be something useful. Either way, I voted for 'Neopets Mobile'.

    Such a true statement.

Also I voted for Neopets Mobile because it's simple enough to understand...

I support this because I feel like it gives people more excuses to try using when they are frozen for cheating.

The app is definitely late to ride the waves, but I feel like this will be a huge jump for Neopets' revitalization. Think of when the brainless app buyers (hyperbole isn't being used here) who normally get addicted to "wait 2 hours for energy recharge" MMO's find Neopets. The population will grow and the game will get more interesting. If this app fails to achieve that, I wouldn't be all that surprised since I never raised my hopes up to begin with. TNT gon' blunder eventually.

If they add something new towards actually using the app along with possibly Lutari Island and Coco av, and not so many ads, then I feel like it'll actually be worth using.

Personaly I think they are opening a can of worms that they should leave alone but then I suppose they have to move with the times.

Roll on the glitches and problems ;)

Of course, if they're coded for it.
iPhone would be hard, since the app would have to be approved (or used on a jailbroken device). The other systems would be comparatively simple.

Not true, the gameboy emulator I posted a few months ago is not an approved app and it's installed on Apple devices that have not been jailbroken as an 'Unsigned App' installed from a page from the Safari Browser.  So there's a way to do it without Jailbreaking the device.

That's true, I'd forgotten about that possibility.

Realistically if you were going to write something for mobile you'd providing some kind of web front end to control programs that *actually* run in the cloud somewhere.

    Spoiler

Is this what you are talking about? https://www.neocodex.us/remote/

It only supports one client, and doesn't have many options, but it could very well be Abrosia running on EC2 or something. :p
