I honestly do not get it. Yes, ebola is a terrifying, deadly disease--but unless you're in Africa or Texas furiously making out with sickly-looking people around hospitals, you're probably pretty safe. It's spread through direct bodily fluid contact, nothing else!
People freaking out about ebola

Do not even get me started on how much I agree with you (besides the sickly people comment, because Ebola can take weeks before symptoms start showing). The receptionist at my work declared that she had Ebola because she recently went to LA and is now sick. And left early so I had to do her + my job.
I know when that swine flu thing was a big deal I got infected with it and it was definitely to the point where if I saw a bright light I would have ran towards it, so I understand feeling paranoid .. but people are taking it to a whole new level this time ..

Just think that in a third world continent (at least most of it) just 3k people died (I know, it sucks, but it's not like the 1%).
I guess that mostly every country can handle pretty well.

The only legitimate concern anyone might have about ebola is if it mutates into a more contagious or lethal form.
For my final project last year I made a whole fake news site around a journalist who was mutating and blogging about it.
I succeeded in getting the jury to believe it was real..Quite odd how fear works.

Yeah, the majority of people I've heard freaking out about it live in the US, where an ebola epidemic is pretty much unthinkable.

People freaking out about this are ridiculous. I'm starting to see reports on the news that Ebola can be spread through "skin contact" now. It's insanely stupid.
The skin contact is because of the body fluids, so if you touch someone with ebola you could get it easily. But the chance of touching someone with ebola is REALLY low

That's amazing, omg. Somewhere, H.G. Wells is applauding.

I'm actually in Texas so this whole Ebola situation has been blown out of proportional over here since some guy was recently diagnosed with Ebola in Dallas
I dunno.

I live in Texas, so I just quit browsing facebook / watching the news for the time being.
It's ridiculously annoying.

Yeek, I can't imagine how people must be throwing fits there. Be sure to videotape the amusing ones.

I live in Texas. I don't allow people to touch me. Somehow, I think, at some point I'll still manage to die. Eventually.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.
We have communities rising up with diseases that have been all but eradicated for decades due to stupid people thinking they know best and can beat science. An Ebola outbreak in the US is not impossible.

The thing about that is, most of those are due to anti-vaxxers or antibiotic resistance, neither of which applies to ebola. Anything's possible, but an ebola outbreak in the US is really really not likely.

Distill anti-vaxxing and antibiotic resistance down and you get ignorance at best, stupidity at worst.

You have a higher chance of getting run over by a car than dying from ebola

I read somewhere that Diabetes type II and Flu are deadlier than ebola.

This is what I find many people always forget to observe. The statistics.
People always feel the need to whine about how I like to cook meat. They say "Oh no! Cook that more or you are going to get trichinosis!!" ...... If they put research into it they'd realize that the chances are very ridiculously low, but those people generally base all of their ideas off of main-stream media and old wives' tales. At least they deserve a bit of credit for being concerned for other human beings, even if it is irrational concern.
" odds of getting trichinosis from eating pork sold at retail stores is only 1 in 154 million* " ( *Calculation performed by the National Pork Board based on U.S. Bureau of the Census statistics, 2009. )
