My cousins funeral was today. I didn't go because I honestly think funerals are pointless. You're not actually saying goodbye to them, they can't hear you. Plus riding 4 hours to Vegas listening to reggaetone music the whole way (that's all my aunt listens to) just to attend a funeral and ride 4 hours back sounds like torture. And this is the only time in ages I know for sure they'll be gone all day so I can actually get some cleaning done. Everyone is trying to guilt trip me for not going but I honestly do not give a fuck.

Funerals aren't pointless. The last funeral I attended was my grandfather's, and I can't imagine not having gone. You spend the day with your family, remembering the deceased. I became closer with my aunt on that day, and my father. I got drunk with my cousin and danced in the middle of the street in Queens, which I think my grandpa would have liked. Obviously my experience is not the same as yours, but your cousin just died. I think it's insensitive to dismiss this as an inconvenience. You should have gone to remember them, or if you didn't care for them, or didn't like them, you could have gone to support your aunt. Or maybe you aren't close to any of them. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, and I'm not saying you're wrong, just providing a different perspective. I'm very close with my family, so that could just be me. I remember my cousins funeral when I was young, my cousins and I played cops and robbers throughout the hotel. We were too young really to understand death, but it's one of my favorite memories and I'm glad I was there.

In seriousness, it depends. If I'm comfortable with them, like if we talked for a long time before meeting, then I'll hug/grope/kiss willy-nilly. If we haven't and I want to, then I'll be like, 'hey can I have a hug before I leave?' If I don't want to and they try, then I back up and offer a hand.
