That's one of the things I love about my language. Almost no word is neutral! Partner, for example, would be parceiro (male) or parceira (female).

See that would totally help and reduce a lot of confusion. I get it why people say that English is such a hard language to learn, there are so many words that sound the same but have different meanings based on the context (to, two, too). I remember when I was learning French in school thinking "ok, having masculine and feminine words is great, but who decided what makes a noun one or the other?".

 

Haha, I wasn't thinking of it like that the first time she phrased it because the context made it sound like a business partner (telling me that she got a gig because of her partner) so I thought nothing of it. But then this past weekend she was out of town because it was her partner's mother's birthday. And well... that's probably a bit too personal a relationship otherwise.

I wanted to hit Aurora today so bad. She tried to defend a 24 year old teacher sleeping with a 16 year old student. Then she tried to claim she was just playing the devils advocate, then she tried to claim to be some kind of authority on rape because she's been raped. Even though at 25 I couldn't fathom even looking at a 16 yr old, I agree. The fact that he's her teacher makes it even worse. There's a power dynamic that can't be ignored. Ive flirted with my teacher before and it's up to them to set boundaries and do their damn jobs. I just hate when people play the devils advocate just to do it and they know they're not making any damn sense. And she tried to say that Mary Kay Letourneau didn't rape Villy because they're still together so obviously he doesn't see it that way.

In Texas, the age of consent is 17, but it's state law that teachers can't sleep with their students, because of the abuse of power.

Yeah it's roughly the same in the UK. My old religious education teacher was convicted at court for shagging a 16 year old pupil under the abuse of position stipulation.
