My hair is naturally wavy/curly, and I use various brands of sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Right now my hair is a really awkward length (too short to wear curly most days and too long to look good without straightening it). The only time I comb or brush my hair is right after showering, while it's still wet, or else it gets frizzy. After showering, I usually gently towel dry my hair (when it's longer, I use paper towels instead of terrycloth to minimize the frizz), brush it with one of those big paddle brushes, apply some silicone-free anti-frizz cream/a tiny bit of argan oil, scrunch my hair (for curls) or comb through it again (if I plan on straightening), and let it air dry. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to my hair care routine.

I've always wanted to try neem oil also
I didnt know about the benefits of neem oil on hair until you mentioned it and I went to look it up. Thats pretty cool.
The neem oil I have has a very strong smell though. I use it on my plants.

I found three homemade recipes for hair gel. I have to say tho, I never used any of these thus, unfortunately, I can't speak for their efficiency.
- 1 cup of warm water
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of unflavored gelatin
- 2 to 5 drops of essential oil (this is optional if you want to add it some perfume)
--> simply dissolve the gelatin in the water and add the essential oil when the mixture has cooled off.
Keep it in the refrigerator after each use.
- 2 cups of water
- 1/4 cup of flax seeds
- 1 to 3 teaspoons of honey (optional if you want more hold)
- 2 to 5 drops of essential oil (also optional, same reasons as the above recipe)
--> boil the flax seeds and the water stirring continuously for about 5 to 10 minutes. Strain the mixture trough a cheesecloth to eliminate the seeds from the gel. Mix essential oil and honey.
Keep in the refrigerator after each use.
- beat 1 egg white until it hold stiff peaks. Use it in damp hair. You can blow dry it to speed up the process and add more hold.
you can use a t-shirt to prevent frizzy hair. It's more effective than any towel.
have you ever tried argan oli?

@mermaiden
it was just curiosity, really. I just wanted to know if Tresemme has a free sulfate line.
If you're happy with your method, I'm happy too.
Honestly, they probably do. Like, every brand does now. But I tend to avoid the common ones because I tried a few, like Loreal's, and they just didn't cut it for my hair. I'm trying to find this brand my friend sent me for this one shampoo for buildup, but it's hard. I might give up and order online. Finding brands is a chore to be honest because I hate wasting what I have left since I paid for it.

finding a perfect shampoo/natural method that works for us it's a life long chore lol the needs of our hair change constantly so we just have to keep moving with it. It's a constant work in progress.
Here it's very, very hard to find a natural shampoo brand, unless we start searching online, which is absolutely impossible for people without back accounts/credit cards like me.
The newest line of every brand is filled with more and more shady stuff "more foam (how useless)! more nice smells (created in labs with harsh chemicals and/or GMO)! more shine (more gunk to coat our damaged hairs)! ...", exactly the opposite of what consumers are asking for nowadays, which is really frustrating and very disrespectful. ![]()

I've tried that, but the material isn't as absorbent as I'd like it to be. Paper towels actually work better than anything else for me, but I feel guilty about using them because it's so wasteful. Fortunately, I've been able to keep my frizz under control lately with minimal effort thanks to the combination of products I use and the lack of humidity in the winter.

Yay, glad I could help you discover something new. But yes you're right I've heard it stinks
although people say that for tea tree oil too, while ofr me ti has a quite pleasant smell
Nope, but I'd like to, aswell as avocado oil. Honestly I want to try out so many things... n the other hand, I spend so much money on perfumes and cosmetics I never use. Oh internet, you've worsened my obsessive shopping sprees.
But now that my shea butter and most of my essential oil are gone I'll order new ones soon, and me being me, I'll buy some new stuff I've always wanted to try out, probably some oils too. Right now I buy almost everything online

It still manages to stay in reasonably good condition. I'd like it to thin out a bit - thought my years of abuse would help but no. Every time I get it cut, far more weight comes out of it than length comes off.

Same. I wish I knew how not to look like Danny from Grease the next day after I shampoo. I used to get away with it by wearing a ponytail every other day but now that my hair is short it looks horrible if I don't wash it.

I'll vouch for avocado oil. It's the only oil I can use so far. Rosehip, sesame and coconut don't agree with me. Also, coconut smells amazing for the first half an hour but after a while it makes me gag.

I find avocado so disgusting. Can't see anything good about it, specially the smell. Ugh.
I'd really like for you to keep me updated, I'm curious and I always like to know what people think about experimenting new things. ![]()
specially when you go to the supermarket and rows and rows and rows and rows of pretty coloured plastic bottles that half the time don't even go to recycling. I'm so happy I got over all that lol
@Nymh
that's how shampoo works. The more you use it, the faster you'll have to wash it again. It's an never-ending cycle of removing what's good for your scalp and cover it with synthetic crap that will only look good for a little while.
Once I understood it I found it so pointless.

Oh trust me, I know that it is completely unnecessary. I would much rather be no-poo. I don't use soaps or shower gels on my skin and I wouldn't on my hair either if I could make the transition out of using it without looking like a giant greaseball.
I washed with conditioner today instead of shampoo and it worked ok. We'll see how this goes I guess.

I understand you, it can be very hard for some people.
Did you ever tried reducing the amount of shampoo/conditioner little by little? Some people had success using this method, every time they shampooed they put water in the bottle, by the end it's mostly water with shampoo/conditioner scent lol and hair had been going through weaning almost unnoticed. It takes a while, and it's not guarantee for everyone, but it might work with you?

If you want to try this, be sure to use a separate bottle for mixing with water because these products are formulated quite specifically and mixing water in will dilute the things you are trying to wean yourself off. But it also dilutes the preservatives and such so you risk getting bacteria or mold in your shampoo. So mix with water if you like, but do it in a separate bottle and try to finish it within a week each time after mixing.

The problem with looking online, though, is it's not the same as buying some brands from a salon. Which is dumb.

Same here.
Meh.
Used to wash my hair daily but now it's more of a 2-3 times a week thing.
Use Mane n Tail shampoo and conditioners when I do.
Really need to go through this entire thread and see if I can find something more suitable for color protection since I recently dyed it black again though.
Brush multiple times a day.
Every few days use Ever Straight's Brazilian Keratin Therapy Shimmering.
Still haven't quite figured out wth to do with my beard.
If I shave it I look like I'm frikkin 15.
If I don't well... still haven't figured out what style really suits me best.
