PHP slider question... and how do I make my site run faster?

Don't really know about the slider thingamajig.

 

Do you have any caching being done on the server? E.g. wordpress caching plugins or caching software on the server itself (e.g. varnish cache).

I don't think I have any wordpress caching plugins.@.@

Varnish takes some time to set up but if you want something quick then one of the simpler caching plugins for WP might do the trick, Zencache is pretty dope.

Awesome. Will zencache also work on sites that aren't on/made with wordpress?

I'd say no because it's a wordpress plugin, but it might be available for other platforms on the developer's site. Varnish however works with most (if not all) web servers that are available on Linux (e.g. apache, nginx, lighthttp) so the site itself doesn't matter as long as the web server is compatible. If your server is something running on windows then you're going to have to look for alternatives.

I found a good varnish tutorial though. Thanks for all the help!
