I've been under a shitload of stress lately, like 27 years or something, and decided I probably need to do something about it.

I started using the free trial of Headspace, a meditation app, trying to exercise more, and ignoring certain people who stress me out. I'm also taking a couple classes, one on aromatherapy and another on herbology. (Taking classes right now in itself is a little stressful, but that's not the point) I'm now huffing citrus and lavender oils like a 16 year old with a can of spray paint and daddy issues, and I guess it helps? I don't know, I'm really into the placebo affect, but I can't seem to placebo myself out of this place.

Anyway, the point of my rambling, is what do you do to unwind?

I do yoga every day. in the fall I start law school and will likely double up on the yoga and add in some meditation, based on this I have read -_-

Do you like the Headspace app?

    Edit: Hey, 100th post ^_^

I just build it up, but I don't recommend that, ever.

I do all the things you mentioned except for herbology classes. I think that's awesome! I have started doing a little gardening, as you know. I do yoga, I meditate, I smell stuff that smells pleasant and calming. I went to the Movies with my friend and we watched Pitch Perfect 2. Sometimes a little female bonding is all you need. I am really into the "treat yoself" shit right now. So I go out a few times a week with my friend, just to the grocery store, or bulk barn, or for a hike. I take a bath every single night without fail.

Oh, yeah. I forgot. I do gardening/earthing/being outside and sucking up the D in general. (I'm basically a hippy)

Yeah, I like it. It took me a bit to get used to the guy's voice though. I'm kind of picky about that kind of thing.

I build up, then close myself off and explode. Rinse and repeat.

I also take drugs, of the legal prescribed variety.

If I can't change it, I don't worry about it. I hate worrying and stressing about things that I can't change or adjust.

If I can change it then i work out a plan to change it.

Is it a coincidence that "destressing" is one letter away from "distressing"?

    I think not.

I think that's where my spelling confusion happened.

Make a strong drink, take a bubble bath, listen to music. I do my clay stuff when I'm stressed too because it takes my mind off of things.

I try to solve what is stressing me instead of trying to forget about it.

I usually get Starbucks and lock myself in my room to watch netflix.

I NEED to be alone when I'm super stressed. If anyone is around, I tend to lash out.

That or just venting everything to someone works. Talking to someone about the stuff you feel shitty about really helps. Chappy usually hears me out. She's super patient with me though xD

I use sleep sounds at night like thunderstorms and whatnot to calm my mind, or I listen to some classical music. Just some good sleep, alone, can help me with stress. I also use meditation apps like Buddhify, Headspace, and Centered. So for, all of these have been pretty helpful. I also free meditate or do some yoga on the mat in my room. If I'm having a really shitty time or the weather outside permits it, I'll take my mat to my backyard and do yoga by the pool. Being outside with some fresh air and sunshine does me wonders. Also, talk it out! Find someone to vent to (a friend or even a therapist) and just say what's on your mind. You're more than welcome to spam the shit out of my cell phone.

I take to water. It took a long time to realize that that was my go to thing when upset or really stressed. Running water through my hands, hot shower, swimming in the dark.

Exercise is also high up there. Stepping outside, especially when it's night and super quiet. Bonus if it's clear enough to see stars. The fresh air hits me and I realize how much I needed it.

Floating in an isolation tank is high on my bucket list.

    edit: rain also

A glass of wine, preferably outside. Zoning out with headphones on and avoiding human contact for a bit.

Completely forgot about this. I go swimming too - especially in the dark. Night swimming is probably the most relaxing feeling in the world to me. Just sitting there floating in darkness. Love it.

I make stupid blog posts here to which only a handful of people truly know the context of.

    I'm writing one right now.

I like to draw, or play the violin, but when I'm super stressed I can't do these activities.

Night swimming is srsly one of the most relaxing things I can think of, but I don't have a swimming pool at home, so there are really rare occasions when I can do it.

Lately I've been sleeping a lot, watching netflix, drinking tea and trying to stay away from people that stress me out. Ah! I'm also painting those colouring books for adults (shame on me)

The issue I'm having with talking it out is that I have recently developed trust issues. So I need to work those out too probably. Now that it's getting warmer, I'll probably spend more time outside at night. I actually did that last night, with the dog.

Ah! I'm also painting those colouring books for adults (shame on me)

Oh, good idea. I just remembered I have a book of mandalas to color somewhere. I should find it.

When I get all stressed out a hot bath with a cup of tea usually does the trick. Otherwise a car ride with the windows down at night does wonders. Find some back roads so it feels like only you exist.

I agree with Shannon too, ambient sounds rock. I like the "babbling brook" ones to relax to.

If i cant have any of those then I yell at my boyfriend until I feel better then he usually gives me a hug and we take the dogs for a walk.

I think background music is so important to relaxing. I play romantic era classical when I am at work. Since I started doing that I am much calmer and better at my job.

I like to listen to binaural recordings of the randomest things, people whispering, cutting hair, scalp massages, whatever. It's just the little sounds and what not just giving this tingle on the nape of me neck or if I haven't listened to them for a while then the whole spine.

And afterwards I feel just totally relaxed.

    Spoiler
