ive got a tv with a hdmi slot and a freeview box with a hdmi slot aswell. To get tv do i just plug the aerial lead to the freeview box and then the hdmi cable to freeview box then tv?

It should work. Make sure that you have set the input on your TV to hdmi.

Also be sure not to have Scart/AV cables connected in the freeview box as well as HDMI, as with some models it overrides the HDMI connection and reduces quality.

Scart is Analog, HDMI is digital... Thus, more reliable which allows for far higher fidelity / bandwidth etc etc.
