The beginning of this year I decided that I had way too many things started that I hadn't finished.  Well, it wasn't so much a decision, or even a realization, as it was just admitting it and deciding to do something about it.

Anyway.

I have too much shit and too many unfinished projects, and if you've been on your own for a few years you probably have a much similar problem.  So I put my foot down.  No more buying books until I've finished some that I already have.  No more buying yarn until I finish some of the things I already have in progress.

What project do you have that has been waiting for years for you to get back around to it?  What could you pull out of the closet and start working on next?  Right now I am crocheting blankets for my kids that are shaped like mermaid tails.  I started them last year and haven't gotten very far with them yet.  Here is a picture with a link to the pattern:

I'm doing the same with video games. I'll pick up new ones if it's some limited edition, but otherwise I'm waiting and completing my current game and getting all those achievements before I buy more or I'll never finish any of them.

My copy Fire Emblem Fates will be collecting dust for a while, and I bought years ago still wrapped and waiting to be played.

Luckily the Pokemon plots aren't too long so I can finish them before anything else interesting comes out. Unfortunately I give up before I get really into the meta game.

A few years back I've been working on a comic, but just last year, I decided to stop working on it completely due to school and rehearsals. I've been meaning to get back to it, but every time I do, I just feel like it's fruitless. So until I feel like my time management and mental health are in check, I'll just start the comic all over again (because I don't like the techniques I've used, and it looks inconsistent ATM.)

Right now I'm playing Borderlands 2 and trying to complete the game with every class.  It's not easy. XD

I'm being over ambitious this year and plan to finish every single fucking thing ever.

My current list:

A shelf of books (which I've made a lot of headway on, down from a bookcase of books last year)

Decluttering the kids' clothes, I'm probably 2/3 of the way done and I started last month.

Pokemon X (Had to start over bc kids)

A handful of writing projects.

Writing a book. It's been on my head for a long time but I just can't find a way to start it. Even when I have a good idea, the writing I do start seems to just be from the dump.

It's been taking me forever just to get the pictures and posters I've bought on my wall. I have a Sherrif Rick plaque that I want to put up but I can only hang it on a hook and I have yet to buy a hook. This is gonna be the week I finally go and buy the single damn hook I need to get his sexy ass up on my wall where he belongs.

This thread is just going to be me showing off my platinum trophies at this rate. At least I'm finishing what I start.

Erm, I've not really started many projects recently. I guess I've been dawdling with my writing, but I haven't felt like I have a specific goal in mind in quite a while with that sort of work.

I have renewed a subscription to The Economist and I'm already a month behind in reading issues. Each issue is like a small book. A hundred or so pages of small print, few pictures, few ads. Really informative, but a project with no end if I've ever seen one.

Once every like 2 years I start something creative and see it through til it's finished. Before it was a drawing, I stayed up somewhere around 12 hours from start to finish on one piece and it came out pretty fucking good for someone who doesn't draw. I got an E in art for school y'know...

This year I made a music track which took around 3 full days/nights to finish thanks to hyper focus ^_^ , but the melody for the chorus still makes me iffy on it.

On top of that, for this year i'm in the process of making a very nsfw calendar for my friends group. When you come up with such a great joke idea the only thing you can do is see it through right? Sooo i'm trying to get that done before my friend goes back to uni cause she be the photographer, and before I move so they have something so great to remember me by  ^_^ I'm talking bunny ears for easter, a sexy nurse outfit for halloween, and of course, a sexy santa for christmas. I want them to have to bleach their eyes to get the images out of their heads so i'm open to all ideas :p

I started making a huge paper menger sponge (level 3) years ago and I managed to finish maybe a third of it. Actually it's just collecting dust and I think I'll "finish" the project by throwing it out :(

Stuff I often start and never finish are software projects. I wanted to write something to get all my music organized and gave up halfway through since it became kinda messy when I was scraping information from vgmdb and the mods there contacted me because I was submitting to much imprecise info. I have a vague idea where I stopped but it would take me a while to pick it back up again.

Update. It's almost May and thus far I've just got the hook.

This wasn't on my original list, but we have been working on it for a month, which is about 1000 hours longer than it should've taken.

And now it's done.

I go through phases of doing things obsessively and almost exclusively for weeks - months, and then suddenly dropping whatever it is for weeks - months. Then I pick it back up again in the future.

Right now I have a crochet rose blanket I need to finish for my parents, some crocheted Pokemon plush, several colouring books that haven't been finished, several crossword books that haven't been fully filled in, an extremely complex 11-count Aida photo-realistic embroidery of my childhood dog that's like 75% finished, another huge embroidered picture of Tutankhamen that's less than 50% finished, and I'm sure I have more shit somewhere that I need to do. Lots of video games I haven't completed.

I may finish stuff this year, I may not. I find that if I try to force myself to finish something before the spark of motivation that gets me doing it obsessively strikes me, I can't do it.
