@Emily @Prisca those are the cutest proposals! i think i wouldve died if my whole family was there to witness it though haha dont think that would ever happen considering what they think of my boyfriend, lol.

@Eefi many ladies still wear their engagement rings with their wedding rings :)

@Tauriel THAT IS SO CUTE thats something i would do haha. it was our 2nd anniversary earlier this month and we went out to dinner. I knew he was getting me a promise ring AND THE ENTIRE NIGHT i thought he was going to give it to me in a glass of champagne or get the waiter to put it into the dessert or something. I was PRAYING he wouldnt do something like that because it would be so embarrassing but at the same time i was secretly hoping he would (and was a little disappointed that i didn't end up getting it during dinner). When we finished dinner we went out to the docks to sit by the water, and he literally had it out and holding it in his hand for a good 5 minutes before i noticed it haha, so cute.

anyway i was going to tell my own story about a mug but i got carried away with my promise ring.

when/if i get pregnant, my way of spilling the beans would be to get him a mug that says "best dad ever" on it, with a picture of the ultrasound inside. I've never told anyone this but now that I have it doesn't sound so exciting and I'm a little disappointed :(

I could totally imagine what his face would be like though   so i guess it would be worth it

    POPULAR POST!

Ok here goes for a second time. My fiance had been bugging me forever asking when I was going to propose, and I always would jokingly respond "October" but I never said what year. Last year, anytime she would ask, she'd always respond "well you only have 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, etc. months until then, so we will see." We always go to her dads house about an hour away near the end of October to celebrate his birthday. There's a vineyard about 30 miles from him that she likes, and always wanted to get married at. After looking at the prices for wedding packages, we knew that would never happen, so I'd always considered proposing there as it would be the next best thing. That weekend, I had made up some fake tickets to a private tour (which I'd already booked). When we went up for the birthday party, her stepmom presented us with the fake tickets, saying she'd gotten them for free at work, but was naturally unable to attend that weekend because she had to setup for the birthday party. It was around noon, and the party wasn't until 6, so of course my girlfriend said "oh yeah let's go."

We got to the vineyard and I presented my fake tickets to a tour guide, who was on board and knew to play along. They got us a glass of wine, and started a tour of the facility/grounds. About 10-15 minutes into the "tour" we stumbled upon a blanket in the middle of nowhere, complete with pillows, chocolate, fruit, cheese, and another bottle of wine. Once she saw the setup, I am sure she knew what was coming. I proposed and she said yes. We spent 2-3 hours out there on the blanket enjoying the scenery, and we returned to her dads place for the party where we were able to share the good news with her family. It was a solid day and I think she was definitely satisfied with how it went down. I have included some images for your viewing pleasure.

i always see videos of guys making the biggest event and putting so much effort into a proposal and building up sooo much confidence to do it in front of so many people, only to basically be slapped in the face and said no to in front of so many people. I don't understand those types of girls :(

Why is this the woman's fault?
Why instead of not understanding those "types" of girls, why do you don't understand these "types" of men that probably didn't even know if their girlfriends wants to get married? O.o
Some men use public proposals to "force" women to accept it "oh yeah, if I make this a show in front of her family and friends she won't be able to refuse it".
Some things are just meant to be discussed as a couple and I do understand women that refuse this types of proposals if it's used to "trap" them.

I made it very clear to Mancave that I don't want to get married, and if ever tries a public proposal I'll leave him that instant. I also said the only way he's going to put a leash ring on my finger is if the said ring is deep-fried onion. Needless to say, I'm terrified every time he gets home with a box of deliciously hot dep-fried onion rings. :/

I've been proposed to four times, but there was one that wasn't just stereotypical dinner and a ring. He built a choose your own adventure style maze on minecraft and the options were like "do you love me" and stuff like that and if I chose the negative ones, I'd fall into a pool of lava, off a cliff, etc. If I chose all the "right" ones, at the end there was some kind of wall thing (don't really remember tbh) that said will you marry me in it. I finished the maze and turned around and he's holding a ring out.

The next time I get engaged, I'm sure it'll be great no matter how it is,  but I'm pretty sure I already know how/where he'll do it.

I still wear my engagement ring instead of my wedding ring. :p Engagement ring is shaped, so it doesn't sit flush against my wedding ring and I love it more. My wedding ring is on a necklace, but I don't wear it every day.

Why is this the woman's fault?

Ha. This. If The Boy has tried anything remotely public or over the top, he would have fully deserved whatever humiliation came his way. All it would have done is prove that I shouldn't marry him.

The proposal was casual, our wedding was the most relaxed day, we drank horrifying amounts of tequila and I danced on the table. And that's why I love him.

I don't know in which way I would propose. However, I do know that whatever I decide to do will be done awkwardly and very very clumsily. I know I'll start giggling in the middle of attempting to be romantic, because it's just what I do.

Lmao I blame (almost) all stupid romantic comedies out there that make women look like a bag of ovaries ready to explode at the sight of a white dress. It's offensive to all women, particularly those who don't want to get married (for whatever reason, it's not anyone's business - I'd have so much to talk about this too), because even those who want to get married not all of them want to be proposed in front of their families/friends/random strangers. We're not anyone's property anymore, start treating us like it? t's a dick move and humiliating (for WOMEN) :/

I was never aware that a gesture like showing the world how much your significant other means to you could be offensive. Very very interesting, I'll make sure to properly communicate with my wife-to-be how she wants me to propose.

But that's the thing. Even if for people that want to get married, a public porposal can be humiliating. It puts a lot of pressure. In my opinion, doing such thing is not a gesture to show us how much we are loved. Like Coops said, communication goes a long way and can spare both parts a moment of sadness that should be all about happiness.

I think it depends entirely on the person, some women would love a public proposal and see it as their partner sharing with the world how much they love and care for them, and for the right person this could be very romantic and exciting. But a lot of the girls also prefer something intimate and meaningful with their partner, it's a special moment that they want to share with only that one special person. They may feel that making it into a public spectacle takes away from the intimacy of the proposal and makes it a superficial and meaningless show.

My friend and his wife (fiance at the time) were at dinner at Disney World and Mickey and Minnie were walking around taking photos with patrons and when they got to my friends table they stopped and acted out a proposal (which was planned of course) and then my friend pulled the ring out of his pocket. I like some public proposals, but I couldn't imagine being the recipient of one of those flash mob proposals.

There's definitely nothing wrong with a public proposal. Just make sure it's what she wants and it's what you want, before you do it. Ask her what she wants and tell her what you want. Maybe you don't wanna do a public proposal, there is nothing wrong with that. You're not obligated to do a public proposal if you don't feel comfortable. People for some reason romanticize not knowing, or not talking about stuff and @Katya is right, dumb ass TV does this. But it's so much sexier talk about shit.

Should you be in a position to propose, you should probably have a reasonable idea anyway. :p You may be surprised to learn that I am a cynical little witch, as opposed to a big showy romantic type. I know, I know, staggering but true. Had The Boy done some big public hearts and flowers type proposal, it probably would have been evidence that we shouldn't get married. Similarly, if a girl was after the fairytale happy ever after and the big white wedding, she probably wouldn't settle for our hungover practicality in a car at 7am somewhere in the English countryside. :p

Yeah, because if he did the showy thing, it would mean he didn't know what you liked/disliked and didn't bother to figure out what you're comfortable with. Romance isn't just flowers, flashy rings and fancy meals. It's knowing what your partner wants, respecting their desires and accepting them for who they are. It can be different for everyone.
