Yeah, because if he did the showy thing, it would mean he didn't know what you liked/disliked and didn't bother to figure out what you're comfortable with. Romance isn't just flowers, flashy rings and fancy meals. It's knowing what your partner wants, respecting their desires and accepting them for who they are. It can be different for everyone.

Exactly! Flowers and flashy rings doesn't mean romance for everyone. I dont like flowers or flashy rings so that wouldnt be romantic for me, I like ice cream, coffee and mac n' cheese xD

In fact, I'd much rather this ring:

I think there's a huge amount to be said for how aligned you are on proposals/weddings. :p The Boy is very open about the fact that if I'd been the sort of girl that wanted who wanted the big white fairytale wedding, he wouldn't have asked me to marry him. :p

My husband says nearly the same thing. Our wedding was just as small and personal as the proposal. I wouldn't have minded a bigger one if he wanted to, but we were pretty much on the same page with the whole thing. Small wedding, only our parents and closest friends. It was perfect, besides the unbearable heat that day I wouldn't change a damn thing and neither would he.

Yes, absolutely. That's why communication is sooooo fucking important. It's awesome he's open with you about what he wants and that works for you. If two people want fundamentally different shit, it's going to be hard to make things work.

@talbs that is like my dream ring *_* I'm always tagging my boyfriend in engagement ring posts on Instagram and Facebook xD HINT HINT

I don't think I would be able to have a big wedding either. Not only because I don't have many friends (literally all my friends can make up the bridesmaid crew haha), but because of the wedding costs as well. It's ridiculous how much a wedding costs these days. Honestly probably no more than 50 people at my wedding haha (is that even small? Idk.)
I'm scared to even invite my parents to my wedding because of how unaccepting they are of our relationship. I would probably even get my boyfriends dad to walk me down the isle rather than my own father.

From the experiences I've made in past relationships I'm fairly certain I'll never get far enough to be proposed to. But if someone is silly enough, it should go something like this:

He's a rich old fart and I'm young, wild and still sexy. We are eating cheesecake in Milano, when suddenly I bite on something hard. Big fat ring, yes. My darling fiancé puts that big fat rock onto my ring finger and I faint. The café starts clapping. I decide to stay unconscious because social anxiety can't handle the attention I'd get from a public proposal. He'd get me driven back to the airport. On the way he'd massage my sweaty feet. Italy can be quite warm. The AC in the oldtimer is nonexistant. I come to in his private jet. My darling is snoring. But not for long. The merino-satin blend blankets are very thick. There he goes. Good night, sweetie.

But in all seriousness, I dream of a kitschy wedding on a castle by a lake in the summer or early autumn. But I could never kiss my husband and say "I love you" and "I do" in front of all our family and friends.

Ugh, if The Boy had attempted anything even remotely soppy, I would have laughed in his face and rejected him out of principle.

We were driving back from somewhere really early, and hungover. Ended up stopping somewhere because we weren't sure either of us were fit to drive. Snoozed in the car for a bit and the conversation basically went:

The Boy: You know we're probably going to get married?
    Me: Do you think?
The Boy: Yeah. *long pause* Should we just do it? Seeing as it's inevitable?
    Me: Alright then. Yeah.

7th anniversary in July. We'll be in Sardinia and will probably ignore it. True romance.

This speaks to me. Something along the lines of "Hey. Let's go to Vegas. Right now. Pack. Airport. Let's go." Just simple and decisive and all that. I don't like to be the center of attention, so I'd probably puke if anything was done publicly.

I'd probably want mine to be in private. I'm not one for PDA or even showing feelings of love to anyone but the person I'm with. So... just with them lol.

I'd def want mine to be in private, nothing public, though either way hopefully we'd have talked about the possibilities of marriage beforehand. It's weird, I've always wanted to get married, but as I get a little bit older it sounds more and more stressful in lots of different ways. I still like the idea of having some sort of ceremony and proposal though.

And I'm a romantic, so something a little sappy would be cool with me.. :)

I gosh I totally understand what you mean by it being stressful.
I have difficulty organising my own birthday parties ( last proper birthday party that I had was for my 9th birthday, and I didn't even organise it haha xD)
The closest I've come to organising an event was me making a Facebook even where I just invited friends and acquaintances to to out clubbing. (I made a list so whoever clicked attending got free entry)

I'd probably have to hire someone to sort out the wedding xD

My man's best friend lives in Las Vegas and wants us to elope! He said he would pay for a week in a nice hotel, honeymoon suite! I told my man, we could do it if my best friend could come when we elope so we would both have our best friends there! But, it definitely is an enticing offer!

So, since the person I like is an actress and I'm studying for actor, I'll tell her about ideas to make a play. I'll use then the opportunity of costumes-props for the play and then, propose wearing a dress after making her wear a tuxedo and everything, just to present these.

    Spoiler

It'll be either the best thing ever or the most amazing kick my butt will ever receive. Either way it'll become One of those anecdotes. :p

I got proposed to in an airport parking garage lmao, but to be fair we had already discussed getting married, and we were in a LDR, so the next time I went to see him when he asked, I knew it was coming. We didn't have a wedding, we eloped, had a small family reception with my family in the US, and a small family reception in Canada with his family. When I moved (2 months after we got married) we had an even smaller reception where my parents flew to Canada and met his parents in person. I racked up a lot of frequent flyer miles in that relationship.

I don't really like big or showy things, I dislike attention or the spotlight on me.

If I ever get married again, I'd like a wedding somewhere outdoors with our closest friends and family.

I proposed to a guy twice, he said no both times lol.
