Canada is in North America and they got it a few days after the US

It's just that there were rumors that they'd release it in South America after Japan. And there's this website with the pokémon servers, Brazil, Argentina and Chile showed up a while ago (although still down). But you never know!

Fun fact for you all, @Hydrogen actually had an idea for a geo-Pokemon type game back in 2012, I remember discussing it with him in IRC. Don't think he ever actually did anything about it though, he could have been rich! I even predicted some of the criticisms:

Wouldn't it generate the Pokemon when you get the egg and not when it hatches?

I would assume the Pokemon would stay the same within the egg, but the actual CP amount could be higher if you waited to hatch it after leveling up.

 

I read that someone encountered a Pokemon, ran away from it but it stayed on the map, did something to level up, re-encountered the Pokemon and it was a higher CP than the initial encounter.

 

But, yeah there's no way any of us here could give you a definitive answer. That's probably something to ask in Silph Road.
