Hey there,

Title says it all. I'm creating this topic specifically for the Neocodex management team in order to request for members or at least advanced members, to be allowed to manually adjust item prices in the database. If this might cause too much of an issue with conflicting sources and people trolling, then perhaps we could create a topic board where certain members who are active on Neocodex still to be granted these useful admin powers.

I would like to nominate myself! Hahaha. In all seriousness, I am still active on Neocodex and am constantly having issues where the ABer purchases items that have far less value that reflected in the item database. I don't have an issue with items being priced under their actually profit; I'm not lazy and I can do the adjustments myself. Unfortunately, the ABer doesn't have an exclusion option to take out items that I don't want and the program is often found buying sets of 10 or more items that are actually way less profitable. My example will be the Blue Lupe Paw Lolly, listed in the item database as ~13k NP and in actuality, sells for maybe ~1.6k-1.9k if that. While I still gain a profit, it's rarity and market saturation are both such that it makes it quite difficult to sell and would prefer if the ABer does not buy said item.

What are your thoughts? Could we allow item database input powers to be given to a select few? Any mods/managers can comment on this?

I've been having issues with a full shop, so I've been increasing my profit margin to try to balance out purchases vs sales.

Also the whole UB concept might need a biiiiiit of an overhaul now that we can put stuff into our shops up to 999,999?

I believe you need 500 posts to be able to adjust prices manually for items worth 100k+. As for items worth less than 100k, it is not possible to adjust those prices. I have repeatedly begged Waser Lave to be able to because of the issue you brought up, bu apparently the algorithm for pricing would be messed up if people started adjusting those. The price listed on the item database is not necessarily the lowest price, it's more of an average which is why there is a discrepancy.

Keep the same system, but bump the 100K to 1 million to adjust for the Shop Wizard Changes.

Yeah if @Pyro699 ever gets to it :p

Also the Shop pricer won't handle 100k+, but I might be okay with handling those ones manually anyway.....

I've offered to do this for years with no response or outright No from the higher ups

I stopped using abrosia because it's constantly grabbing horrible items from shops and hasn't been updated to deal with shop clears

Wow, it's really nice to see so many people still active on neocodex. I used to be so hyper on the forums, formulating buy lists for non-advanced members and what not. Hahaha.

Just wondering for those here; where do you AB nowadays? I'm tentatively trying to AB in battle magic and defense magic hoping that since Neopets has died down quite a bit, they are more lax there. Do any of u take risks in places like Battle Magic, Kauvara and Merrifoods nowadays?

:cop: lurkers know me :p

I think with anything the shop does not really matter its more about your neo presence i.e. do you post your big restocks on boards, do you immediately put your item in trades to sell so on and so on.  If yes to these you are bringing attention to yourself and that brings haters who like to report, which in turn then brings TNT to review things.

If you have your settings not to harsh i.e. not in humane speeds and keep a low profile then you should be able to go in any shop.  Dont get me wrong if you AB then you stand the chance of getting found out and iced but these days TNT it is "more" less likely.

As a software engineeer, I agree to this, It wouldn't be too hard to build a small spa (single page app) or even a small api that you could integrate better into your existing toolset - with a submit price feature, where users submit their prices.

There is, as always, a cateat to this of course being that people could spam incorrect prices - throwing off the prices.

Which is why a majority trust model (think about it as how bitcoin confirmations work) would work well.

Things to know before reading the process I have in mind:

  • Each user is assigned a trust score (wrong prices awards negative trust, correct prices awards positive trust)
  • Items are repriced when the system sees enough updates with a similar price (including possibly threshold)
  • Users are given a cool-off period of a specific number of hours/days - if x number of price update submissions are deemed incorrect (within a specific theshold of an agreed price)

This is obviously a very quick and rough idea of the process: (which I'm sure others could improve and have ideas about)

  1. User submits price update for item
  2. Price is added to a event store (queue) along with that user and their "trust score"
  3. After a number of submissions / a set interval of time - the event store/queue is looked at for updates, aggregates these, ignores outliers and sets new price
    1. Users whose price submissions were used gain positive trust
    2. Users whose submissions were ignored are deduced trust

What do you think?

Reason for arriving at this thread?

I was just looking up my sales and saw something in the tracker, searched ssw, saw it was out by +300% (ssw says ~1k, item tracker says 3k), searched on how to submit price updates and saw this thread.

My creds if anybody cares: Have worked in development for over 15 years.

Would love to help anymore if I can :)

If NC aren't willing to do this, I could create a chrome plugin that tracks any visits to shops, lookups on SW/SSW and submits them, although of course that would be an entire different service outside of neocodex. But it'd be better keeping it on here I guess

The thing is non UB items can change price very quickly.

Plus, the changes would most likely need to be verified, even for advanced members.

We really can't just have someone putting an item at 50k when it's worth 20k. We can't have people putting at 20k item at 5k.  Or having the price on an item change every couple minutes.

There would need to be a system in place to verify the price, and also make sure changes aren't being submitted right after each other. There'd have to be some kind of time limit. Like preventing multiple changes to an items price within an hour.

Plus, there really isn't much of a difference between an item being worth 5,500 and being worth 5,490. A price change of a few neopoints really isn't that big of an issue. Again, having multiple changes of just a few neo points seems very redundant.

There need to be safeguards in place for a system like that.

price manipulation would be a real issue if that happened
