Right.

So, like...could we get a mod or something...that takes your average word count per post (not quoted) and displays it on your profile?

It certainly would help us determine spammers versus contributing posters. <hums> I just, I don't know, I think it would be an interesting stat.

Nice idea! Those people who don't make private but have a good quality post will get some more recognition for it and ofcourse it will crack down on spammy posts. Also if the count was to fall below a certain number, then obviously you should get warned for it.

Quality doesn't necessarily equal quantity my dears.

Hence the suggestion

Quality doesn't necessarily equal quantity my dears.

The question is...would you rather have a long pointless post or a bunch of short, pointless posts?

I'd go for the long pointless. Normally you have to put at least SOME thought into it.

Well, when you do that, you're SUPPOSED to quote it. Because it's not your words.

It would be quite good. Only way I can think it would work is if you update it every post. And if you did that you would have to make a big tool that gets it before hand. Get ShadowLink64 or something to approve it, then I could make it after the one I am doing :) It should actually be quite simple.

Great suggestion. This can also be a factor that can be included in private applications so people aren't tempted to spam just to get a high post per day count to increase there chance of making private member.

its a good idea BUT sl has just patched the board for not so many SQL quires at a time so im not too sure that it could be instantly maybe every 12 hours maybe every day

Yeah i was thinking that too, wouldn't that be like an extra querie per post, which would probably bring back all those Board errors.

agreed totally. Well in fact i was also thinking of creating a mod that set min. amount of words required for each post too.. I believe it will cut down on spams. Of course the min. need not be too high. I think it would be approriate if its around 20 or so.

this is an interesting idea. however, determining it might be a little resource intensive so it might not be real time...would that be ok?

The way I would go about it is, have a calculator script to do all the past posts. And then start from now. After every post just go and add to it. Is that instensive i don't know >_<

How long would Codex be down for if this mod was made and checked all posts?

I don't think we'd be down we just might be running slow for a bit :(

Why not do it really late or really early when practically no one is on? That way there isn't a lot of people on Codex so the resources being used are already low and it won't lag as much

I just want to step in and say I love this idea. I can not say my post are always extremely long or have a great point, but I do try my best to always have some reason for posting.

I would also love to see how it was done, since from my knowledge I have never seen another board have a word per post counter.

You would have to determine whats a word though. I mean its like your Typing speed. They don't count just the word and, they would add it only once it is say five characters or so. So you could say every five characters is a word, or something similar to that.
