Ever since I have had internet access, I have seen a plethora of stupidity showcased all over the place. From big government, to little Bobby Conners down in suburbia, it never ceases to amaze me to see how dumb people can me. So I ask you all, should it be illegal to be stupid?
Now when I say stupid, I mean whatever. Ignorant, oblivious, dumb, etc.

My opinion as a self-proclaimed intellect is yes. It would make life easier. Crime should go down, racism should go down, democracy wouldn't fail so much, and many other things!

Keep in mind this is a semi-serious topic and should be treated as such.

Semi-serious topic and yet you made that third poll option that I oh so happily chose? Right. ;)

Dunno who frizzle is, should I check up on this?

The punishment . . . . Well at first there should be none, seeing how many we currently have. However, programs will be implemented into make people . . . SMARTER and eventually it will be frowned upon to be stupid. Perhaps fines or jail time in knowledge forming detention halls.

If I could adopt him/her (Im guessing her, but Im not positive, their gender is "No Information") I would. Actually, Frizzle seems like the right person for the job ;)

Dunno who frizzle is, should I check up on this?

You may want to bring this thread to his attention or he may never see you, I dont think he comes into the debating area much.

<xterm> The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Hydro, thats exactly what we must do. I got bored and pulled up a site quick full of these dumb warnings, want me to list some?

On a bottle of lighter fluid: Danger: Flamable

On a grill used for cooking: Warning: Grill will overheat and cause burns.

On a lawn mower: Do not leave child unattended while mowing your lawn.

On an uninstalled outlet: Warning may cause electric shock. Do not stick fingers into open wires.

On a hot water heater: Hot water can cause burns.

On some electronic devices: Do not operate underwater.

On a saw: Do not put hand under moving saw.

On a child's superman costume: Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly.

Explain to me whats difficult to grasp in some of these concepts without even reading the warning label

The last one though, Dane Cook has a funny joke about that. People wearing Super Man shirts, lol.

For more of these dumb labels, click.

Well, I've PMed frizzle about coming, now to see if he shows up :funone:
As for the labels . . . they're just there to make government happy . . . or should I say consumers who bother government. I do agree that many are just painfully obvious.

Well.... I'm not sure about ignorance, but stupidity should really be a crime. :p I like Hydrogen's quote actually. O_o

On a Swedish chainsaw: Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands.

Wow.

No of course not. Who else would clean up my rubbish once a week, or server me greasy food with spit in it?

I would. Not.

Honestly, I don't like stupid people. I don't mind people who act like dumbasses, then stop and be normal. Some people, with the exception of metally disabled persons, do need to be... I guess... helped.. Regardless, I voted no.

Question: If there were to be punishments for stupid people how would we test who was stupid...a test? or would we walk around a look for the person with 10 mouse traps caught on his face?

"The world needs ditch diggers." You get rid of stupid people, then you'd better expect the world to be a hell of a lot more competitive and for salaries to dramatically increase. Personally, I love stupid people...I've simply chosen a field (network engineering) that allows for me to have very limited exposure to them. But if it weren't for stupid people, then I wouldn't get paid what I do even though I do a relatively easy job for me. It's just that it's too hard for "stupid people," so we "smart people" get paid. :)

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you. You believe that stupidity should be illegal. As punishment for this you also think that they should be fines and then jail time.

What about those who are genetically (by which they have NO choice to be smart at all) intellectualy disabled? It seems unfair that they should be fined and have to serve jail time when it wasn't their choice at all to be intellectualy disabled.

Also, even if I did agree with you, the jail time wouldn't be an option because if that was the case because there would not be enough room in cells to hold stupid people.

Also, you said that society would not fail as much but in actual fact it would even more so because for starters, citizens would have to pay higher taxes to ensure that police are doing their job catching and arresting all the stupid people. And, while police are off looking for stupid people, they are going to put real crime on the back burner which could wind up in many people being hurt in the long run.

So once again, no stupidity shouldn't be illegal UNLESS it involves putting someone else in harms way...Then it should be illegal.
