Overall I hate plane rides, I hate coming early for them, I hate the shitty movies they play, I hate the food, I hate the people, I hate the terrorists who want to kill me.

If man was meant to fly, he would of been given wings.

I think I heard somewhere you are more likely to get in a car accident on the way to the airport than have the airplane crash and burn.

Found it, Click. Scroll down a bit and you will see a table, that shows your odds :p. It talks more about volcanoes than anything, but you get the point.

How many more cars are there than planes? That's a ridiculous comparison.

Uhh, how is it ridiculous? It shows the odds of each things happening.

The odds of you dieing in a car accident are about 1 in 6000, while the odds of you being in a plane that goes down is about 1 in 1,000,000 to 1 in 10,000,000.

there are way more cars that can engage in accidents, it's not a reasonable comparison.

Thats the point <_< You are more likely to be killed by one of these numerous cars than to go down in an airplane <_<

yea i'm just explaining that the comparison itself is not plausible, there are about 700,000,000 cars in the world, compared to a tiny number of airplanes.

Speaker you dont get the point of the comparison ;)

The number of cars has nothing to do with the % rate.

It's just that unless you were worried of dying from car accident, you have no reason to be afraid of a plane flight

i know, im just explaining from a safety standpoint.

there would be more plane accidents if more planes flew out

yeah, there would be more plane crashes but there would also be more safe plane trip : SO the % would stay the same. the 1 chance on 100000 or whatever would be the same

I dont understand the point you are trying to make. Yeah, I know there are more cars, and thats what increases the probability of a fatal accident. Planes are relatively safe to fly in, with the odds of them crashing or going down really slim. Here, Ill get another link and a quote for you.

In their analysis, the researchers considered scheduled domestic passenger operations of 10 major U.S. airlines and travel by cars, light trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles on rural interstate highways—the main type of roadway that would be used as an alternative to flying and a type of road that is particularly safe per distance traveled. Their calculations showed that driving the length of a typical nonstop flight—1,157 km or 719 miles—is 65 times as risky as flying. In fact, "for this type of flying to become as risky as driving, disastrous airline incidents on the scale of those of Sept. 11 would have to occur about once a month," said Sivak, head of UMTRI's Human Factors Division.

i'm saying if you took an equal ammount of the two, and compared them it would be a more reasonable result. (ie: monitored 10,000 of each and if they got into an accident.)

i'm not disputing what the information provides, or your point. i'm just explaining that the comparision is not completely accurate.

The comparison says its 65 times safer to fly to your destination than drive <_<. I like the information from the college more because it takes the distance traveled into account.

You are generally safer taking a plane, enough said. I cant get on the same page as you so I will give up :(

    it's a stupid discussion to begin with, but the idea i was trying to explain;

    car:plane
    1:1
    possibly would return different results
