Eeyore may be engaged in a sordid affair with the comma, but my own personal grammar fetish lies in the bed of the ellipsis... come on... you gotta love it...
Do I type too perfect?

You can be yourself on the forum, and let loose on messenger if you want, it let's people know that you have a "fun" side in you. I'd rather actually keep someone on this site that uses proper punctuation in long posts, the only other I can think of, would be the Ryuu, and whilst those rants are fun to read, It'd be nice to have another.

People still view me as "cool" (I think.) And I was once a Moderator. I am also Retired. It really does not matter HOW you type, it's WHAT you type that counts.
Sometimes I use shorthand to get a point across, or jsut be amusing.
"ZOMG WTF WAS DAT!?!?!?!"
^^^Funny.
"|-|4|-|4 J00 V\008Z!!!111!!!1!!ONE!111!!!one"
^^^Funny.
While typing in what I call "txt-spk" (Why does that sound like some kind of library for PERL?) is the norm, I feel it makes you look dumber. No offence to anyone who uses that.

The only thing I really have to work on, is my emoticons. It seems sometimes I have to use them, else people can't fully comprehend what I'm trying to say. I remember making numerous sarcastic marks, and people taking it offensively, so I started using emoticons instead.
i had the same problem. i decided to just type like an idiot
edited, screw irony

And getting even considered as a moderator is far more difficult that typing nicely and making a few friends. Though all our moderators do seem to type perfect.

Typing good doesn't get you a moderator position
Anyways, I type sorta good, it really doesn't bother me if I throw random stuff into my posts, so basically i'm off and on. My MSN list is huge though
Typing well doesn't get you a moderator position
Anyway, to answer your question, no it won't do much for or against you. If you have perfect grammar but you never participate in any of the chat, you'll never meet people (and therefor never advance), but the same is true if you speak in 1337 speak. Honestly, there are people on the staff that type perfectly, and there are people on the staff that don't. It has no bearing on the decision (unless you are completely incomprehensible

The second I entered the thread 'cara' grabbed my attention and I thought I did something wrong.
Anyways, it's not actually a bad thing to use proper grammar, and type properly, mainly because the people who don't type very well are not too .. erm .. respected (?) but the higher ranked members. It makes it very dificult for them to read if you do not use proper punctuations, spelling, etc..
However, this isn't school. Alot of people here don't strain to type perfectly because it's a place to have fun, not worry about your gramatical errors, though I do understand to a certain point.
You also have to be carful choosing your wording, this site has several young people who may tend to not really understand the majority of your adjectives mainly (from what I see, personally.) and words in general.
If you notice peoples writing and mainly signatures they do use contractions and replace 'the' with 'teh' (which is quite strange, imo ..).
If you continue writing the way you are people might tend to skip over your posts (Iam not saying it is a bad thing ..) etc.
Continue writing properly. We lack people who do so. x.x
edit, edit! I forgot the friendships part .. yes, you tend to see people saying that me to and alot of other people, but when others say things like that to me, we're usually close, know eachother outside the forum. Our relationship is not based on the things you listed as we have talked and grown close to one another and saying 'I <3 you' to me and vice versa in a friend way, it's just expressing ourselves. It's upsetting you used my name mainly of what you wrote after that. I personally think you can do a little bit a both, why not?
edit again o.o .. realised after re-reading Im being a little over dramatic towards the end. My apologies.

Why use my name? No one literally has that in their signature. o.o
Look Again
Also, it is very funny, how becasue of this topic, the people who replied in it, tried to use proper english. As for me, you will notice that my grammer and spelling get better at random times, that is becasue when I go to sleep and I wake up, I can acctually type instead of missing keys. Sometimes I do the "teh" mistake, becasue I am thinking what im going to write, and so I do the "e" before the "h".

But for the people who would go and capitalize words like lol and lmao is just stupid!
Like:
"Lol, I'm ok... and you?"
Come on... I mean, I have done it a couple of times, but as mistakes of course.

No disrespect intended.
I see your name and various iterations of "cara <3" stuff on Balmung's MSN display name all the time, so it's the first thing that popped into my head while searching for a valid example.
My apologies.
