So basically I need to reformat my computer, but their are dozens of programs and files that I have on my computer. I don't want to just swap them over to my external hard drive, and would rather just make hard copies on disk. Is their any way for me to just copy the program directory and insert it back in after my fresh install or am I going to actually need to re install all the games?

The main reason I ask this is because I do not have all my software on disk still, and god only knows where they went off too.

Another reason is that many of the files are going to be games that I have played hours and hours of and would hate to loose my game status. Like oblivion for example, anyone who has played that game knows how long it is.

your going to have to reinstall the games and software. you should be able to burn all your current saves onto a cd/dvd though. for example oblivion saves in %userprofile%\my documents\my games\oblivion
