Doom...doom couldnt have inspired anything. You shot flying red eyeballs in that game. Just because they used it doesnt mean it's Doom's fault. They could have used anything really to "map out their school". Not to mention, they WERE mentally offset.
Why doesnt anyone blame TV? I think TV shows more violence, and has the possibility to inspire far worse things than games, especially like Doom.

The concept that video game violence outright "causes" violent crime is ludicrous. How many people does anyone know that, after play Grand Theft Auto, go out on a rampage and mow down innocent bystanders for absolutely no reason? NO ONE! angry.gif

Fighting exaggeration with exaggeration. Violent video games have caused desensitivity to guns and death, which could have easily affected the Columbine kids. Also, Doom most likely was not used to plan their escapade -- truthfully, it sounds like Doom was a randomly chosen game by the media that most people would know about -- but chances are that a game like Doom made them more aware of shooting a gun.

Does this mean we should outlaw violent videogames? No, but it certainly is food for thought as to how and what we are raising our society on.

Wow this is stupid, its just like the music makes you kill people.

here is my stand, unless a video game can make you grab a gun and shoot someone, its not the cause, you are responsable for your own actions, stop blaiming them on games.

and you can probally tell, i only play violent video games biggrin.gif

Whats your stance on videogame violence?

YES it does cause violance.. like a year ago there was a game released in Russia, a nazi game.. where you had to go around killing jews... this one kid 16 years old was obsessed with that game, and 1 day went to a sinagogue(jewish church) with a gun and killed like 15 people who were at a time praying.. eventually he got cought... but 15 people died....

    It does cause violance...

P.S Going to play GTA San Andreas tongue.gif

The game wasn't responsible for the influence. The way he intepreted the game was responsible for the influence.

I wouldn't go blaming video games for all of this violence.. if you can't differentiate between a video game world and the real world, then you shouldn't be playing video games.

But you have to admit, just like early signs of addiction, some people will have problems that are very rarely recognized. Most of them are crazy, and can really do some screwed up stuff.

Okay the first two guys to talk didn't seem to me to know what they were talking about. I myself belive that to have a video game to infulence you requires you to be so weak minded that anything could influence you. And the collumbine incident, you cant train to kill somone on a video game, it doesn't work, fireing a gun and firing a mouse are totaly different things, and during collumbine they blamed anyone they could exept the parents, The parents, or teachers should of been able to tell that there was somthing wrong with a child, you dont wake up one morning and go "time to kill everyone at school",
i think that the collumbine incident was caused by a disturbed kid, and would of been preventable if there was more laws towards owning a gun, I dont think video games or any other medium change peoples views and make them violent, its the enviroment we are in which does, and its up to the people around you to tell that there is somthing wrong.

I'm going to bump this due to Thompson going after- Guess who? Billy Gates o.o
    http://l2pnoob.wordp...ootings-jack-t/

What is your view on this? Did video games play any role on the VT shootings?

I'm going to say no. He felt like he was a victim in this society (God I hate society, everyone is a victim) and wanted to get even. He was made fun of repeatedly(From what I heard, could be inaccurate), and he just snapped o.o I think its just a person who doesn't fit and instead "Gets even" and goes for publicity. Hell, the kid was mentally ill too dry.gif

maybe this guy hasn't seen the video that chong ching xiao liao weewong released but it's pretty obvious that something as trivial as video games wouldn't have such an influence on this guy. he had some pretty deep-seated issues and outlooks on life which really don't have much to do with violence, it just seems like that was his only outlet (besides his terrible plays). he presented himself as a very racist and hateful person, don't see how videogames could cause that.

this will blow over just like the marilyn manson -> columbine connection did

Thompson isn't so much saying that video games inspired "chong ching's" shooting; rather, that it trained him how to do so.
Which isn't that incredible.. seeing as how he was rather dexterous with his gun for someone who hadn't ever used one before (as witnesses described).

It is ridiculous to put the responsibility on Bill Gates though.

i don't see how counterstrike could aid in gun use, maybe that you need to point it at someone

    Wait..

Wasn't CounterStrike made and published by Valve? blink.gif
Jack Thompson doesn't even know what the bark he's talking about (as usual). Microsoft has nothing to do with the game 1we8.gif

I don't see how these people come up with this crap. In any aspect that they put it in, it doesn't make sense. Video games don't suddenly make a person violent that had no tendencies beforehand. They don't help you in any way with real shooting, if you have ever played a fps and fired a real gun you would know this. It just isn't the same, you don't aim a gun with a joystick, nor do you get a near perfect aim with no pull back once the gun is fired. Any government figure who claims games cause violence or help with making violence easier has never played them.
