This is an article outlining how the U.S. Soldiers are being more and more fatigued every day: http://www.wired.com...ml?tw=rss.index

The "Support our Troops" bumper stickers only go so far sad.gif

If people truly supported these soldiers, they wouldn't be in Iraq.

Except all these soldiers are voluntary and knew what they were getting into when they signed up. They knew they were fighting this war and they wanted to. Those soldiers SUPPORT this war so those people are supporting the soldier's beliefs. No one was forced to fight for us.

To be taken advantage of??? You should go talk to some kids that go to my school that have enlisted, kids that get 30k a year free tuition because they're in the military. They enlist to protect their country and to serve their country and it's elected officials. That's exactly what they're doing.

Ah, but even Casey Sheehan re-enlisted when he learned that our country was going to be in Iraq. If they didn't want to go to Iraq and still protect our country they could very well join the national guard.

Im not questioning their intentions. They are very pure. I am just saying that our government's priorities arent very straight in using the service that these brave men and women provide to them.

National Guard gets sent to Iraq as well I think. This lady came for career day last year, and she was from the National Guard. Somewhere along her speech someone asked her if National Guard gets sent off to Iraq, and her answer was pretty much an indirect Yes. Im 99% sure on it.

The National Gaurd DOES get sent overseas. My bro was- He was at like, Camp Victory for about a year (I think thats it, either that or Annaconda, not positive). The soldiers over there completely believe in what they are doing once they get there.

They do, our local NG, troop 187 was just sent a few weeks ago. There was an enormous send off, the main street in the city was shut down to escort them out of town, the civilians were the escort, not cops.

Sorry to cross you hydro, but they are not being taken advantage of, first of all, hes not a drafted person hes an volenteer(you can see by his company), this guy was just pure stupid, they give you gas masks, and they tell you to wear them all the time while they are around the tanks/bullets. its manditory, its even in the contract that you sign when you sign up. this is what the news does, they get the part that looks bad, and then they feed it to us, so we can hate the president, becasue they are anti-political. You dont sign up for the army just becasue you have to, you sign up becasue you want to fight, you want to have a honor, a feeling that you have assisted the greatest power on earth. i have yet to know i person who has signed up to the army and hasnt wanted to fight, sure, we have a draft, but we need that draft, becasue we are lazy americans, none of us want to fight, we all want to let someone else die for our country, only the bravest of mean will sign up for the army, and if you too scared to, then you cant call yourself a man, becasue we've got barking women fighting over there.

once again sorry for crossing you, but dont read the news its bad for you!

What you've just said, is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard, in no point in your rambling incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought, everyone in this forum is now dumber for having seen that. You are awarded no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. tongue.gif

Oh, the top half of the post was a joke for those of you who do not understand the importance of the " tongue.gif "

So they have gas masks which protect from depleated uranium? o.o Do you have a source for that?

Things would have to get pretty bad for the draft to be used again :\ I also like how you call us "Lazy Americans" dry.gif.

I am under the assumption that you meant "The bravest of men", and I find that a horrible statement. How does their position in the military effect their bravery or display it in any way?

Who cares if women are over there?

whats my source, umm, oh yeah, its called my friend is in the army right now, and he is in iraq! plus my brother and my cousin went to iraq(they came back already though)

    happy? enter key

why do i call americans lazy? because we are lazy, its a fact! (with some exceptions)

there position in the military doesnt affect there bravery, but the fact that they will stand up and fight for our country proves that they are brave, any man that will not take up arms and fight, is a coward!

    (enter key again!)

you really should think about joining the army, just go to rtoc, even junior rotc, and see if you can stand it, I bet you couldnt make it through the delta force training, becasue, well, only the strongest men can survive that.

and that fact that women are brave enough to go and fight, while you stay and home and complain about this, proves my point!

Link to this "fact" please? I am not lazy, everyone on my football team is not lazy. I think thats more than "some exceptions", considering thousands of highschoolers play sports across the nation. That is not lazy dry.gif.

The fact that you said that, well, I wont go there. So because they join THE MOST ADVANCED military in the world, they have THE BEST training, they have THE BEST weapons, and they have THE MOST supplies and are against poorly trained forces - They are considered brave? No.

Bravery is shown on our streets. Standing up to that bully, stopping a robbery, saving people from burning houses, risking your life to save another. Not out there killing people who are not armed or trained as well as us.

I love how you throw the word "fact" around so much. Nothing you have said is "fact". Once again, courage and bravery is NOT shown by obliterating the opposition, its shown here on our own streets.

Thank you for saying that Tet. I didn't read all of this topic, but I still feel I had to comment.

I will be kind enough to respect everyones view, but topics like this tend to make me sick. (No offense Hydro). As a former military member (Yes this does mean that I have served in the Military) I am here to say that 99% of all people that join do so to defend our country. Yes, there are some aspects of the military that might not be that great, but that does not mean that we are "sick of it"

Now as to the topic of the war. Myself and most everyone I served with were willing to stay over in the Iraq area and fight the "war on terror" for as long as we were needed, so that people like you (Americans in general) could continue to freely make topics like this.

Do I think that the war should have taken this long though? No. There were some things in the beginning that could have been done differently, but that is all in hindsight.

So should we pull all of our troops out now? I say that the answer is no. Why? If we were to pull all of our troops out now (all at once) we would lose all of the ground that so many soldiers have died to obtain.

I know that this is starting to sound like rambling, but let me sum it up for you one more time. From my experiance in the military ( yes I was in Iraq too), I can gaurantee that us soldiers are not "sick of it". We just want the bad guys to give up already. tongue.gif Hope my point of view helps a little.

P.S. Yes I did read the link I just forgot to say it in my post. Most of this little rant was in response to some of the other comments made here.

I believe they got out of it that way because Vietnam wasn't considered a war. It was technically a police action to protect innocent capitalists in South Vietnam against the murderous Vietcong "free health care" communists. The national guard can be called out in a war because it is defending our country; you wouldn't call the cops from NYC to come to LA to put down some riots, would you? Especially if you already have a ton of support from your friendly local police stations that aren't technically in LA, but are close enough to help.

Sorry, I got into a very large analogy. It overwhelmed me :\

The draft is still in effect. And guess what: enlistment numbers for the army are dropping. No one is volunteering anymore, and you know what that means? The draft is still a viable excuse to steal me out of my home in two years, no matter if I believe in the cause (or even if I believe that the war will protect my country) because being a nonsupporter isn't a reason for a defferment. (and we don't even use deferments anymore anyway.)

If you are in college i don't think you can be drafted so i think i am safe but redlion has a point. Even though i am not against the war and kinda semi for it i guess i can call myself a bit of a hypocrit because i don't know what i would do if i was drafted i would probably leave the country. sad.gif

Hell, if they ever did reinstate the draft, all I'd do is apply for 1-A-O Status. Being a concientious objector would mean all I do is probably go before a board and say how my martial arts training is for self defense only, and I can't harm anyone because it goes against the mentality that goes with martial arts. Having instructors that have known me for seven years would definitely help convince them.

As it stands, every male over 18 has to register, but we're not legally allowed to be drafted into military service until the Congress and the president approve it. But guess what, it only has to be a simple majority wink.gif
