On the news quite often they say how that violent games effect people psychologically and stuff. Do you playor watch violent films/games and do you think they really effect you?

Well firstly i dont beleive they affect me much, i play ps2/xbox a few hours most days and most games I have are violent. But i am not a particularly violent person, i try to stop fights and to avoid situations like that. However I have started swearing more since i got my ps2. Thats just probably me getting older.

also do you remember a game called manhunt, basically you kill people to put it simply. after a copy of it was found at a murder scene it was banned in all shops in the UK. about 2 weeks later it turned out to belong to the victim and it was then unbanned. (although that wasnt as widely televised)

So post what you think etc.

Nobody can ever really say if they affect a person or not. Personally, a close friend of mine is addicted to video gaming in general, and many of his games are gory and/or violent, yet he can't stand either in reality. Recently, however, he's been developing into a more violent person and is beginning to show a fierce dislike of most women in general (unsure why - he's 15, normally guys are all over girls at that age) and is extremely racist. How racist? I went to a movie with him once - Snakes on a Plane, if you must know. Throughout the entire duration of the movie, he was throwing popcorn at some seikh family infront of us, directly aiming at their turbans and finding it highly hilarious.

I dont know if this is a development of his own character which would of been the same had he not been exposed to violent video games/movies, but I somewhat doubt it. When I knew him in grade 3-4, he was quiet, reclusive and shy. Such a startling change in only 4 years concerns me.

The majority of the games I play personally are somewhat violent and/or extremely violent at times. Counter-Strike, for example. Half-Life 2 may count, not quite sure if that fits under violent or extremely disturbing (tongue.gif) and World of Warcraft. All contain excessive amounts of violence, yet I am a pacifist by nature in reality, and I haven't laid a fist on someone in over 7 years. I intend to keep it that way.

Final conclusion? I believe violent video games and movies can have an effect on some people, but not the majority. The media abuses this to no end, and have successfully established a stereotype among the computer-illiterate people about us otaku folk.

Violent people will be violent whether they play violent games/watch violent movies or not. As a matter of fact, I'd rather violent people had a violent outlet like video games as opposed to having to go and be violent with real people to satisfy themselves smile.gif

And yeah, the game Manhunt rocked. Fun as hell! And gasp, I killed hundreds of people brutally in Manhunt, yet I've never killed anyone in real life! Fancy that.

Studies have shown that violent films and video games can provoke anger in rare cases, but it is not a constant.

Of course they influence small children, that's obvious, but that's why the games are 18+.

So really the laws around video games and films should be enforced.

They are enforced, let me remind you of the case where the Grandma bought GTA 3 for her grandson, and then got infuriated when she saw him play it 1we8.gif Didnt she sue the company too? xD

Violent games have had no effect on me. 1we8.gif

the closest I can say they affect me is when im playing something infuriatingly hard, almost do it but then right at the end mess something up.
Sometimes it make me want to smash the controller.
