On behalf of the staff here at Neocodex we want to wish all the members that celebrate it to have a very happy Diwali smile.gif

For thoughs who don't know what it is I will tell you a little bit about it, well it is also called Deepavali and is a major Hindu festival. It is known as the "Festival of Lights," it symbolises the victory of good over evil, and lamps are lit as a sign of celebration and hope for mankind.

Diwali is celebrated for five consecutive days in the Hindu month of Ashwayuja. It is one of the most popular and eagerly awaited festivals in India. Hindus, Jains and Sikhs alike regard it as a celebration of life and use the occasion to strengthen family and social relationships. For Jains it is one of the most important festivals, and beginning of the Jain year. Jains celebrate Diwali because Lord Mahavira achieved Moksha. It is also a significant festival for the Sikh faith.

Here below is a picture of the Jaipur city on Diwali days happy.gif

I hope you understand what Diwali is now and once again, Happy Diwali biggrin.gif

Where did you copy and paste that third paragraph from?

Happy Diwali everyone! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif I love cultural holidays happy.gif

Out of interest, how do people pronounce Diwali? I always think it sounds like there's a 'v' in it.
