As a result, about 1,311 'Member' accounts have been downgraded to 'New Member' because they have made less than 5 posts.

Jeez. That's a lot of freeloaders. tongue.gif

Then Codex will lose it's flow of members, the majority of members came here for the programs

*Sigh* I go inactive for a while and you all fall apart without me. tongue.gif

Nice plan, hopefully people will stick around a bit if they've had to read a few more topics to get their programs happy.gif.

Just do a leecher cleanout. Anyone inactive (no posting) for 2 months or more with less than 100 posts should be deleted.

I've just seen a New Member tag...and it's drool.gif I WAN NEW MEMBER TAG lookaround.gif

No. You make 5 posts, and you have access to all the member-level programs. To get more programs, you must be a private member (see here: http://www.neocodex....howtopic=54378).

see for you guys thats not the problem if you raise it more you all already meet the requirements so it wont bother you i feel if you put the post requirement significantly high two things would happen either a new member would give up on using the programs or they would put the effort in to get the post number but what does that solve... imo the higher the post count the more members youll turn away however as long as its reasonable im all for it

Dude. Look at the statistics. We have had 1200 people sign up since June of this year who have yet to make 10 posts 1we8.gif Sorry, but in my opinion thats kinda alarming 1we8.gif

One thing I have noticed that's come about because of this requirement is that anyone who actually wants to become a member is puttoff by everyone accussing them of being a leecher as soon as they have 5 posts. I feel kinda bad for some actually. You almost need to have 2 tabs open with your 5th and 6th post ready to post just after one another, so that noone sees you with 5 sad.gif I think I'm a little guilty of this as well... if I see someone with 5 posts I'm not gonna give them a chance.

Any new member would be put off by the majority of the active members here being rude to them if they're new... it's hardly going to encourage people to want to stay.
Bit of a catch 22.

When reading around, I've noticed this too. There should be a rule like you have to report if you think someones a leecher instead of flat out accuse.

I understand what you mean but to be honest im not sure it makes a difference if you get flamed or not, i for one couldn't care less if someone chose to flame me because to be honest if i wanted to stay i would, reguardless of what "blablabla123" thinks, because lets be honest what is a high post count, it just means someone found the site before someone

Side note everyone, the 5-post policy looks like it's going to be due for demolition soon. The experiment seems to be largely ineffective, so a staff vote is currently being held to change the restrictions to something effective. The staff vote seems to currently be going four ways:

- Increase Restrictions to 25 posts
- Increase Restrictions to 50 posts
- Abolish the restrictions completely
- Revert to the Restriction of 1 post

We'll keep you updated on the progress of the staff vote. tongue.gif

It would solve all the problems 1we8.gif

Seriously though, look at the statistics. Since the registrations opened we have had only a handful of active mature members join. Look at the leecher count. Something needs to provoke the people to be more active 1we8.gif

I think we should just cut back on programs period. Only give them like one program until they make private or advanced or something.

Actually, that's kind of a cool idea..

We should make a store system for programs.
You get credits based on activity, posts, or other some such. Credits can be spent in the store for a specific number of downloads.

Seems like a cool idea to me.. but it's also almost 3 am laugh.gif

I agree with Mr hobo and frizzle. Majority of the people came here for the programs , so if they arent gonna have access to that, neocodex would lose a vast amount of people it has. Well if you look at things from another perspective, leechers made us even popular, dont they? 1we8.gif
If we did what marine said, and let them only download only limited programs until they got some recognition, they would only make use of the loophole and make another account in order to download more programs. Say if we allow limited programs per IP, they could still go to their friends' house and download the programs and ask them to send them over. Thus it could not solve the problem at all .

Rather it be at 1, 5 or even 225 post before you get the programs, people are still going to be inactive and only come for the programs. If your active then why would you care what the access level is? 25 non spam post is not hard. Many people get that every day.
