Personally I think that the 1 post system prevented the sheer amount of spam that has been happening. I think a 1 post requirement means they have to at least look around the place, if only the intro forum... At first I thought 5 posts would be a good idea, but the large amount of spam appearing doesn't seem to have really settled down.
Yeah.. Pretty much.

Said by me and I'm too tired to re-write.
Applications are too much work and making a higher minimum post count will increase the quantity of posts at the cost of the quality of the posts

Admins have seen it and are probably discussing it. Probably annoys them to constantly see topics about it?

Stop posting these damn topics.

Agreed,
Anyways, i think we shouldn't have any post count increment in the introduction's forum. Also, only allow downloads when you become an advanced member, maybe?

Since I lurk most of the time anyway, i would be willing to help. It would take pressure off of the admins and other staff, and help insure quality of posts at the same time.
Just my thoughts. lol

This is why i still think my idea of taking 2 off a person's post count for each spam message which they post will help. If someone posts 5 spam messages to get the programs, they will end up on -10 posts meaning that they will then have to make 15 non-spam posts to get access to the programs again.
After a while, the new members will get the message that spam isn't tolerated and they will hopefully decide to integrate with the community.
It's clear that the current way of dealing with people who spam to get access to programs isn't going to help. For example, gabriela_raven, they spammed 5 messages and their punishment was a 24-hour posting suspension...it's not as if that punishment is going to bother them.

We don't want to drive new members away (which is what would happen with the 3rd option), we just need to find a way to prevent them from spamming in order to get access to the programs.

admins don't come in here anyways.
LOL, you think I don't read these? We are evaluating the current adjustment to see if it's doing any good or not. Personally, I haven't seen a significant increase in activity because of it, but only more work. The thing that bothers me though is that we've let it get out of hand and that we are getting an enormous amount of leechers due to our very low requirements.

Why is that such a huge problem?
It would be nice to see a bit of return benefit for us coming from usage of the programs... with the old system there was no acknowledgment for the work put into the programs (return activity on the board or anything) as all they do is leech and leave with the rate of members actually staying and contributing something (whether it be activity, programming, GFX, etc..) very low.
Now, I realize the fact that increasing posts required to download may not be the best way to achieve this. It was something that we wanted to try to see if it would have a beneficial effect for the community, and we are now having more of an idea as to what effect the restrictions are causing on the board.

Well forcing them to post won't make the appreciate the programmers (well most anyway), because 5 posts is such a low number it can easily be acomplished in a few minutes.
See I don't agree with forcing people to post to get programs (making them work towards a different rank, a whole different kettle of fish), I believe you need to make it so that post count is undoable in a day.
If people need to post so much that they need to spend more then 24 hours (ok you know what I mean) here, they'll get to know the site alot more, instead of rushing around the introductions board and causing more work for the moderators.
You can sling out different amount of numbers to post to 60, 70, 80.. it doesn't matter as all of these small numbers are achievable fairly soon and so as soon as their spamming is done they download and leave.
Also the PPD system won't work. I worked out a loophole in it, all a person needs to do is post in the introductions thread when they make an account and can download alll the programs. Then if they go inactive, they can make a new account and do it again. So really it's not worth it.
Sorry I can't think of any new ideas, but then I just believe the odd prune here or there for members who have under 10 posts wouldn't hurt and this activity thing isn't need.
Also SL64, what happened to programmer, GFX team etc appreication days? Are they still around? Because you could make the finance team or contest team, or news team do something about it?
