Hey everyone.

As some of you may have noticed recently, there have been more new members that have been bringing up old topics in order to reach their five posts to download programs.

To any new members that are reading this, I ask you to please desist in doing so just so you can raise your post count. There are plenty of sections throughout the board and plenty of recent material to discuss. In fact if you go through some of the topics and read what people have to say (rather then just posting a response which very well may be irrelevant), you may find that posting on this site is actually enjoyable. Hopefully some of you will actually take the time to read this and understand it just creates work for staff and animosity on the board to just pointlessly spam smile.gif

Now the new members aren't the only recent problem. Some members of the site have been openly aggressive towards new members and constantly harassing them about getting 5 posts so they can leave. Let me just ask you people this: Why would someone want to even give this board a chance when they are being harassed by a bunch of assholes? That's how a lot of you have been acting towards new members. It can't possibly aggravate you to see someone spamming for 5 posts that much. Cut the shit out, I'm tired of you all chasing away any potential members.

    Nice post there, laddie.
Seriously guys, why complain about how we have so many leechers here, but give them no incentive to stay as you flame them for reaching 5 posts. Be nice. smile.gif

    You raise a good point..

But I guess I wouldn't be so annoyed by the new members if they actually contributed to discussion anywhere.
9 times out of 10, it's a pointless post ("oh yeah i really like that," "I heard about that one time," etc.) on a topic that's at least 3-4 months old. If you look at their posting history, they'll have 5, MAYBE 6 posts that are completely identical.

*sigh* I'll keep my mouth shut, but I know it still bugs me and just about any other member who's been here for awhile.

Pretty sure I've never been mean to anyone (apart from to someone that gravedug and spammed for their single post) But that was only oonce tongue.gif. New members are the way to go! Some might leech and leave for a while, but then they might come back after if we were nice biggrin.gif.

why do they even gravedig? takes less effort to just spam up the most recent topics tongue.gif.

probably would be most common in the program discussion area, since people want to get help with the programs and they mayb old

Want to know why I may be grumpy about this? 29 *new* members have made 100 or more posts since we opened registrations up in June or July, I forget now. There are 25 pages of 50 people each who have made less than 10 posts since registrations.

So I guess the ratio of active (Based off post count, not completely accurate. I just did whoever has more than 100 posts) people to inactives is...
1250:29 - So about 43:1, I really dont think us bitching about a few people is really going to hurt anything.
Hell, 22 pages of the new members have made less than 5 posts. 1we8.gif

It was better when we had leechers that could leech without annoying my balls off.

Now they have to POST 5 times and that just annoys me.

I want to pipe in that I had my five posts within about an hour or so -- but it was all subjects that interested me and where I had something "meaningful" to say. I didn't get flamed at all or accused of pushing my post count up at all.

Just wanted to point out there is still such a thing as a good-newbie-experience wink.gif

Stfu noob. Nobody asked you. Glad to see a newbie here who isn't purely interested in the programs, welcome to Codex

Quick question: Do we report people we see spamming to get 5 posts and access to the programs

Pele, Plew, and shayna, I congratulate you on your successful use of the forums and being true Codexians (yes, we all used that term once upon a time here).

I should make you good little newbies a trophy or metal.

I think we should just see how the cards fall on this one....if there is an annoying post here and there, then so be it.

As far as the gravedigging is concerned, could a modification be written that would close a topic that had not beed replied to in a certain period of time?

That makes a lot more sense than jumping on people for picking an old post to respond to! But it needs not to apply to the Program Discussions as the thread could be old but the program still active.
