It took Microsoft's Steve Ball and his team 18 months to develop the sounds for Windows Vista.

laugh.gif I really don't like the beginning of the four second clip.

You can change it. So it's all good. But yes, it's horrible sound. Wierd thing is, I've downloaded so much Vista stuff for XP, you wouldn't know I'm using XP tongue.gif

Jeez... that sound kinda sucks. 1we8.gif It's extremely hard to believe that it took them 14 months just to create that 4-second clip... maybe they should have spent that time making their core operating system a bit more stable. tongue.gif

At any rate, from what I've heard about Vista and it's various limitations, I am not looking forward to it. If the laptop that I get in the future has it preloaded, I will install Linux or Windows XP on it. tongue.gif

Eh. I'm not too satisfied with Vista.
It RAN on my computer, albeit not too well..

P4 2.4 Ghz proc
512 MB RAM
128 MB ATI 9250 gfx card

It runs a lot better once you remove the "cool, but useless" features, and disable user account control.

It constantly thrashed my HDD, though, and slowed things WAY down at times.

160GB
dvd rw dl-rw

Fripp's involvement is not surprising. His occasional collaborator, Brian Eno, recorded sounds for Windows 95.

lol this whole "i hate vista" thing well end about 3 monthes after release, after people start getting it, all vista-haters will realized they're forced to change for things like DX10. I would stay XP if I could, but no DX10 support for XP is going to force me to upgrade >_<

most probably vista would also lag more 1GB of ram...most likely it requires bout 2GB of ram to run the cool n new features along with other applications...if you choose to off the cool n new features...why for get vista 1we8.gif

That sound was recorded on something like a handheld recorder. No way would Microsoft put something so annoying like that. I can promise you it'll sound better when you get the real thing.

But for me, I personaly think that if there is a difference like the difference between ME and XP than I will buy Vista. Because XP was leaps and bounds better than any other previous Windows so if Vista wows me like that than I'm putting down the money for sure.

Well, the sound described the name of the OS well. It sounds very much like looking out of your window, on a wide view. To be honest, I think it will sound fine smoothed up a little, as it seems a little low quality, but if this is the how the end product will sound, then yeah it kinda sucks.

not sure but i just found this:

A Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:

A modern processor (at least 800MHz1).
512 MB of system memory.
A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.

A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:

1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1.
1 GB of system memory.
Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)2, Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.
40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
DVD-ROM Drive3.
Audio output capability.
Internet access capability.
i think you should atleast have a 2.4 intel p4
512 ram
and a decent graphics card

lol, all i need is 512 MB more memory tongue.gif and ill be set (maybe a gig more tongue.gif )

15 GB xD That's insane blink.gif It better be damn good dry.gif I meet the rest of the specs though biggrin.gif With 512 RAM though.

You do realise developers are not going to just forget us windows xp people? they will eithe rmake games in openGL or DX9, if hardly anyone upgrades to vista, which i know i wont, its a laggy piece of crap and the wont give out there security keys so you have to use microshit security for the first few months, until microshit give out security keys ( http://news.zdnet.co...9283659,00.htm), no thanks, game developers wont give up on the millions of users who still use XP, DX10 doesnt add much or so ive read, and openGL can rival it, and openGL runs on both vista and XP so it would be in the best interests of developers to choose openGL as the basis of there graphics

You can customize it, just like you can customize your skin, sound files, points, cursors, sidebars and etc..

My computer is a XP pro but it looks and sounds like a vista.

which features are those? and whats the account control ??

All the "pretty shiny" stuff that really adds little aesthetic value, and sucks up resources.

User Account Control is the constant "Windows needs your permission to continue" crap. For someone like me who's ALREADY monitoring his system and everything that goes on and off of it.. such things aren't needed, and are just a giant annoyance.
It may have been different if instead of poorly copying *nix, they could actually do it the way *nix systems do.. ask for admin authentication, but then KEEP THE FREAKING AUTHENTICATION for awhile; don't just ask for it every 45 seconds for every miniscule action.
