I'm sure some of you have heard of this as it occured Tuesday night however some of you may not and it is extremely disturbing. This video does have extreme language and does have some violence by the police as well. A student of UCLA had captured this film on his camera fortunately and it will expose how terrible police brutality even in relatively liberal areas can be and especially on a campus at UCLA. Watch the video first before reading the article:

Now you may think that perhaps this student was being unreasonable with the police and the tasering was justified, but think about this, it was all just for a LIBRARY SECURITY CHECK. He forgot his card and when asked did not leave immediately, but he was probably going to soon. Now also note that he posed no threat against the officers as he was handcuffed and listen closely because the students even asked for the officer's ID and they were threatened too.

http://www.dailybrui...es.asp?id=38960

Now read the article and you'll understand why he couldn't stand up. He was not being uncooperative at all, he literally could not stand because of the supreme force of the taser. And you can tell how much that hurts as it is rare that you'd hear a proud male scream that much in pain, I'm sure.

QUOTE
A Taser delivers volts of low-amperage energy to the body, causing a disruption of the body's electrical energy pulses and locking the muscles, according to a report by the American Civil Liberties Union.

"It's an electrical shock. ... It causes pain," Young said, adding that the drive stun would not likely demobilize a person or cause residual pain after the shock was administered. Young also said a Taser is less forceful than a baton, for example.

But according to a study published in the Lancet Medical Journal in 2001, a charge of three to five seconds can result in immobilization for five to 15 minutes, which would mean that Tabatabainejad could have been physically unable to stand when the officers demanded that he do so.

I just certainly hope those officers are fired, I really do.

    QUOTE
As Tabatabainejad was being dragged through the room by two officers, he repeated in a strained scream, "I'm not fighting you" and "I said I would leave."

The officers used the "drive stun" setting in the Taser, which delivers a shock to a specific part of the body with the front of the Taser, Young said.

But according to a study published in the Lancet Medical Journal in 2001, a charge of three to five seconds can result in immobilization for five to 15 minutes, which would mean that Tabatabainejad could have been physically unable to stand when the officers demanded that he do so.

    Alright, here's the point:
The police shouldn't even have used the fucking stun gun in the first place. He had no weapon, and wasn't really doing much besides yelling to let go of him, and that he would leave. If you really aren't sure, then throw him onto the ground and search him/drag him out. Stun guns are used when someone is approaching you with a weapon, or intent to harm. They used the driving feature, but you're not supposed to fucking hold it there. Notice the "drive" part. It's meant to get someone to go in the other direction, away from the shock. After being shocked for 5-10 seconds, no shit you can't get up. After the first time, it was just stupid to taze him with that many fucking people watching and recording. And after they drag him out, they taze him more (while handcuffed) and then threaten to taze someone who asks for their badge numbers? Who the fuck do these cops think they are anyways? The thought police from 1984?

It's wrong what the police did. They could have handled it much better, not only so that less physical harm is done, but also so that politically no harm is done. But they don't think things through enough obviously. They're trained on how to handle people like that, and tazing is a last resort.

The police force is to be respected in society and must learn more common sense. People need to be able to look up to the authorities. This incident is one that undermines that idea. It's analogous to what would happen if all of the moderators of a forum began flaming all of the members. It just doesn't set a good example, doesn't look good, and creates problems.

The police should have handled this one differently. The fact that all of you guys and myself just read an article like this...we should never have to read something like this.

    The point is,
the Tazer wasn't necessary the first time, it wasn't necessary the second time, it wasn't necessary any other time, the threats weren't necessary, and these cops need to be fired and fined.

If anyone has any news as to what happens next, post it. I mean the youtube video has like 30 thousand views, it's on all 3 forums that I frequent with 5+ pages each, people on digg are calling and mailing congressmen/reps/govs/admins/chief of police, something has to happen.

That video completely infuriated me. EUGH, can't even express in words how angry it made me to watch that. So much trouble, over such a little incident such as failure to produce a student card.

And the fact that they threatened to taser those who asked for their Police IDs, what the hell?

Justice is nothing less than those officers losing their jobs.

And would you liberal freaks be still be shouting out shite like abuse of power and other examples of underestimating the police force?

You are not a police offer, you do not know how they are trained, you do not know what rights a police officer has, trust me. Was you in that particular vicinity? To be honest he was being a whiney bitch before he tased, you can hear him shout abuse and cause a distruption.

What if he had a weapon though? Bang bang, alot of dead bodies. You'd be screaming the officers didn't do their job. So really, you guys are making it difficult for people like this to do their job. Do you think these guys were doing this for the fucking fun of it? No, sure now one of you is bound to play the race, I'm just gonna dismiss that as ignorance if one of you do and nominate you for a fucking darwin award.

Tetiel, you do not know if he could stand up, it doesn't state that, it states that in a weak individual that an eletric force of that can cause it, which fair enough does happen, but very rarely and I doubt it would of happened to this individual as he did not state he couldn't. If he couldn't of stood up, he should of made that more aware to the officers.

I can't see how you guys can make a valid accusation of this when you aren't in the situation, you'd all be useless as a part of the police force, and it's people like you with your hippy "hug-a-hoody" attitude that I believe is demoralising and given more freedom to thugs and violent offenders. But then again I can only make that judgement based on cases here.

I'd like to see how this turns out in court, and not based on some crappy video image of someone's shitty phone.

Hahaha, it's really funny that you say liberal when talking to me as well. I am a centrist, but on the right side of the spectrum for the most part but oh well.

No, I am not a police officer and if the law trains them to taser an unarmed man (and they could have checked to see if he were armed after he was handcuffed like they ARE trained to do, but they didn't) while he's handcuffed for not standing up well then, I'm scared shitless and so should everyone else be. Yes, he didn't cooperate but did that justify what they did? Tasers are not to be used against non-combatants especially when they are already completely disabled. And maybe he couldn't say he couldn't stand up because he was writhing in pain or he was trying to get them to stop. Notice how he was barely speaking after about... the second or third time he was tased. Perhaps he couldn't speak because he was immoblized. Instead of CONTINUING to tase him (and if they were not trained to, they should be) they should have checked if he was okay in the first place.

And it's also obvious they weren't trained to properly use it because they did so apparantly inhumanely which thr police do try to avoid at least in America. I don't know about England, really. And no one here (I hope) is calling the race card since nothing racial was said. It is always a possibility, however I think this was mere over agression. I don't WANT to give rights to thugs or offenders, but I do want to stop unneeded brutality. If this guy was actually armed and they had stopped as soon as he was handcuffed, right. Okay. I don't care, but the mere fact that the police used a weapon against him when he was handcuffed and unable to harm anyone that is NOT okay.

That is absolutely sick. Such repeated use of a Taser can cause permanent nerve damage!
My friend had to be tasered in order to pass his training for use of a Taser. It allowed them to know how it felt.
If their training of a Taser is anything like the police academy here, they would know the extreme pain and effects that they can cause.

I have no words that could express how horrible those officers acted.
I have run into many great law enforcement officials that were very helpful, so not all are bad. These officers deserve a dishonorable discharge and a large fine.

I'm not here to debate the training off the officers, it's up to the courts if this guy charges to decided if wherether me or you is right about what we think about the cops decision about this. (sorry that's really bad english, just cba to think of a better way to say it)

Well sorry, you just kinda act very liberal and I swear you was a democratic supporter, but as my memory usually serves, I usually can't remember where I read that, infact I'm probably just making it up. Surprising you being center/conservative..

You're title Iranian-American acutally pisses me off now that I think of it, because you're soley bringing race into the factor for no reason. Why mention his race, if you posted a topic about a white guy getting tasered, would you're title be "Cacusasian-American tasered at UCLA?" I sincerely doubt it. If a posted a topic "Black guy gets shot in armed robbery". It makes the topic look about the black guy being the robber, I could do that intentionally obviously, when really he could just be the victim. I just believe that you've very poorly worded the title as I am 100% you of all people are not racist, unlike some of this site smile.gif

Honestly you dont taser someone on the ground after being put there by it in the first place. I think the police just didnt know how to handle the situation so they just bust out the tazer and zap away till people coaperate. There was 1 guy and many police i dont understand why they couldnt just carry him out of there. I also like how the cops threatened the people in the end with the taser -_-

You're obviously not from California. I often hear stories of police abuse, it's pretty common in California and it unfortunately even has a rep for that. Nothing to do with race. People saw him get abused by the police, and many immediatly emailed and called news services. It was on the news yesterday.

Cliché and annoying "you haven't been in their shoes, so shut up" messages aside, where the fuck does the patriot act have any place in it? Sounds like incoherent mumble jumble. The patriot act sucks dick, but that's another story. People screw up. Besides, the Los Angeles (incl university ones that aren't related) police suck.
