Music delivery systems have come a long way from live events to vinyl, and analogue cassettes and finally digital media. It makes me wonder how in the future we will experience music. I am an unimaginative fellow though so it would be nice to get some opinions on the future of music. wink.gif

Music will be tapped straight from the brains of musicians and streamed over skynet straight into the brains of music fans. tongue.gif

The CD market is so huge that I think they'll be around for a long time. It's so much more satisfying to buy a CD, have it in your hand with lyrics and artwork, then plop it in your cd player for the first time than it is to buy an album off itunes and have it lost in your library. CDs are cheap to make, good sound quality and fairly hardy, whereas both tapes and vinyls were expensive, crappy sounding and easy to break. If anything, CDs will go the same way as DVDs and we'll get blu-ray discs with really impressive sound quality and special features.

I think CDs will be around a long time, but eventually all the songs will be put on a chip that you can slide into your hover craft tongue.gif

Topic reminds me about what Trent Reznor said about the intentional leaking of some of the music on Year Zero on USB drives.

    QUOTE
The USB drive was simply a mechanism of leaking the music and data we wanted out there. The medium of the CD is outdated and irrelevant. It's really painfully obvious what people want — DRM-free music they can do what they want with. If the greedy record industry would embrace that concept I truly think people would pay for music and consume more of it.
