Videos for a new tabletop computer called Microsoft Surface. One hell of an innovation!

Opinions?

I think it's amazing, your right 10k is a bit steep for personal use but for in restaurants and places like that it would be amazing.

Yeah, probably perfect for restaurants, but even then.. I'm not sure many places would adopt the system.

At 10k per table, it better not break when you spill something on it tongue.gif If the table cost 10k, think what fixing it would cost ohmy.gif

Definitely looks like they ripped this off of that MIT student's project. Unless of course they bought him out...

Cool none the less. Slightly impractical for everyday users or even power users. It would be cool at stores and restaurants though.

AND THEY EVEN SAID IN THE ONE EXCLUSIVE REVIEW THAT IT WAS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND!!! SUCH BS!

It looks neat... but if there were nothing over it I couldnt' STAND to put a watery drink on it or even my own fingerprints! I can't stand that shit! But it does look pretty awesome. I think I would get tired of looking down at it .... You can lean back and operate it... Hm. Maybe it will become popular in restaurants and the like?

That looks incredible. Though even though I'd say they'd have glass over the screen I wouldn't dare put any kind of liquid on there tongue.gif

As opposed to a non watery drink? tongue.gif

Ermm... I'll stick to my normal computers. Not new, not innovative and looks to be a pain in the neck.

It looks OK. IT could be better. From just watching that video i can think of 1000 ways to improve the design so it won't piss people off with the pain the neck problem and other things.

i've seen pre-releases of this few a few weeks now, i didn't think people would be that interested - about 90% of what i've heard about it can't be done right now due to security issues and standards issues (the interaction with phones, CCards and PDA's require standards that are only just hitting the standards boards - we are only just about to issue contactless Credit cards in this country - pilot in London is due end July August sometime) and opening a device like that so it has access to your photo's, films, data files is always an 'interesting' situation when you look at companies rolling these things out as they have to store these files in the device (even if it's for a small time) and that opens security issues.

even the ordering meals at your table and creating your playlists using the interface seem somewhat limited - and anyone who's seen an ATM at 3am on a Saturday night with a Kebab decorating it's EPP will see some obvious flaws in the system LOL

Looks pretty, i've seen the technology of multi point user interface and object interaction before (but with OHP and light based sensors and cameras) i suppose it's only now that it can all fit into a small desk (the demo's i've seen before used things like 20+ cpu blade servers)
