Who else thinks physics should be left out of general debating? From what I have seen most people have an opinion on physics matters, but few have actually studied anything above high school level. As a consequence we get 5 page long arguments between four members and only a couple seem to have even finished high school!

Feel free to discuss this thought, it is the debating section after all.

EDIT: this was the main reason why I am scarcely on codex any more as being told I'm a know-nothing twit by a 16 year old irritates me, a 21 year old physics student.

It would be nice if physics was left out of the debate section since, well, noone ever budges on any point, therefore there is no point.

noone budges about any debate. Its been 1 year and ten months since the debate section opened, and AliasXNeo still is a hardcore Christian. The people who change opinions are the generally ones like me who don't have great 0.02 to fill in anyways, other than how to get jacked because you dont know where to buy decent hgh from.

Which is my personal reason for thinking that any debate about religion or topics like physics because the only people who want to post, already are firm in their beliefs (if they aren't sure, then then they'd likely be too scared to post for fear of being ripped to shreds). So honestly... not a lot of point. Religion in itself is fine as a discussion but noone yet will actually budge on their beliefs on an online site... face to face, maybe, but not online.

The reasoning behind why it should still be left around, in my opinion, is the fact it helps for developing argument skills. It takes a lot of time to persuade someone to do something when you aren't face to face with em, but these threads, as redundant as they are, can be insightful when it comes to defending/debunking certain arguments.

I thought the purpose of debating was to expand ones views/see from another perspective?

What does that have to do with anything? blink.gif Just because I haven't decided to change my faith for no apparent reason or not apparent evidence it shows that people won't budge? I have changed my mind on a lot of things, I'm sorry my religion wasn't one of them. Maybe when I get enough evidence one day I will, but until that day cames I'll be sticking with Christianity.

There weren't any negative vibes intended in that comment. You're just a prime example. You still maintain your faith and many of your beliefs pertaining to because debating isnt about persuading people to different sides, more or less its about showing various perspectives on the matter.

For me,debating is simply getting your point across. Whether the person wants to make a concious choice to change his beliefs after understanding your point is a different matter altogether. And besides, variety never hurt. smile.gif

I'm 17, and chill your tits. I apologized. maybe you should give us the benefit of the doubt and not dumb down your explanations. How am I to know that your a physics student if your post did not reflect the knowledge a physics student would have. If you would have given us your full explanation than this problem would not have started, you have no one to blame but yourself. Except maybe me for being a bit rude, but thats it. lol rolleyes.gif

I don't know were you live, but I live in America. And one of the great things about America is that we can think what we want. Hell I have probably read the same books you have, and have the same base knowledge as you, just not as advanced because I have not taken any college classes.
You can make a grave mistake by being ignorant and thinking age has anything to do with knowledge. In fact I am sure you know that considering your only 21.

Sonic, John is somewhat a friend of mine, and is Ange's boyfriend (Ange being someone I hugely respect).

I would prefer you keep comments like that to yourself! I am getting quite annoyed thinking you have the right to flame/flame-bait another person. Believe me, the way John conducts himself on the internet is a whole lot better than the way you are. You may of apologised to him, but you didn't half ruffle his feathers by saying the courses he studied are 'made up' when they quite clearly are not.

You have already been warned, and pre-warned that if your attitude continues you shall be warned again. However, you continue to 'flaunt' your stuff and think you are almighty when you are a 17 year old lad, living in America.

I am sorry Administrators, but Sonic was beginning to tick me off with his 'I am correct' manner.

I would also like to add that John is not big-headed and he is in fact more intellectual than you, and I therefore give him the up most respect I can than someone who reckons flaming another person because they reckon that person is fake.

In no way am I trying to start crap, but honestly. Flaming? In a heated topic, john got caught up in it. Kitsune herself admitted that he had dumbed down his explanation on purpose. So hey, I half/flammed him. That was the only offense. And for you to be even more ignorant in assuming you know me or my intentions, is pretty hypocritical. I did not say his courses were made up. I simply thought that the names given were the actual names of the classes, which kitsune later explained they were not. I doubted that such classes existed, because of the nature of the names. Kitsune gave me the correct info and I reacted accordingly. Maybe you should mind your own buisness unless you know all the facts.

"he is in fact more intellectual than you"
Hey I never argued that point. lol I am sure he is...

Listen Rambo. Physics, and all sciences are opinion/fact. There is a mighty grey area. For people passionate like me, its like talking religion. Hell, I know I got cocky, but so did every other person participating in the discussion. Everything I said I believed to be correct. Would you expect anything different? And when someone said I was wrong, I defended my opinions just like anyone else.

I really dont think any of you will see me act with such passion over any other topic.
John, my apologies. Im sure your smart enough not to take to much offense off of what I said. thumbsup.gif

Jesus ass. Much ado about nothing???

God. People argue. People like to do it. Who cares if no one ever budges? Blocking certain things from the debate section will just lead to further CodexNazism. First we block this, then this becomes taboo so we block it. You should set the debate up so that Moderators should have to read a post before it allowed to be shown. Codex won't be happy until I write some bots that do all the posting for users so there is no flaming.

I personally think warnings for flamings are stupid. And ones for flame baiting are even stupider. If I want to call you ignorant bark, I can. Your choice on whether to be offended or not.

Gah. I hate these kinds of threads. Just pisses me off and makes me not want to barking keep coming to the site.

Stay on topic now. Thank you. wink.gif

Personally, I think the physics discussion can stay in the Debating section, however I have my doubts as to who is mature enough to participate in these discussion. 1we8.gif The debate section as a whole has this issue though, so I think the issue should be addressed in its entire form. tongue.gif

I acknowledge your apology sonic, I merely stated that this is an ongoing problem. As you have said, it is hypocritical to assume you know the intentions of another, which YOU did, assuming i was talking about you. You were the most correct of the other participants in the 'debate.' As such I was not targeting you specifically but the general problem with physics topics. This problem is the recourse to language such as 'moron,' 'Idiot' and the like, which you DID use. I also find it ironic that the only paper name I didn't change was the one you thought was phony. Before this turns to further flame material I am not hypocritical in this matter as I have never and will never call someone stupid (especially on paper/stored internet data). Everyone has at least one talent or area of interest which they are more competent at than myself. It would be stupid of me to say someone is stupid because they don't understand quantum physics. I know plenty of VERY smart people who can't even spell quantum physics!

In summary please take this as a constructive criticism of conduct and use it to further your development as human beings.

Also thanks for having my back Rambo, much appreciated.

The politicall correct terms these days is "Modified requirements." Einstein wasn't really special ed. He was a slacker, very smart but hated having to learn the basic stuff. Once he got into college he really showed his intelligence.

    Words of a smart man.
    You are 100% correct.

The biggest problem is EVERYONE has different levels of education. In physics this becomes apparent more because of the fact that there are so many different ideas, and very few 100% widespread acceptance. Alot of people think that because they saw a National Geographic channel special on a new idea, that its a 100% fact.....

The other problem I have is people getting all bent out of shape because of Quantum mechanics. A lot of people just don't have the ability to grasp such anti-logical statements. So they discredit it. Hell you and I both know that QM has been more widely accepted in the physics world than almost all theories. /end rant. That little thing just bothers me.

But please don't get discouraged. We have a nice little physics community. And some of the outrageous things people say I can post on physics forums and tell my professor and we get a kick out of it lol.

There would be absolutely no reason to remove Physics from the debate forum. To be perfectly honest, I feel that having debates involving religion or science show a level of maturity that isn't found in any other "NeoPets" sites. Sure, you get an occasional asshole, but regardless of where you go, someone is going to be there to ruin it for you. I for one am extremely interested in Physics, but I don't participate in debates. I find that it's hard to debate theory, and until I can prove in my own mind that something is logical, I will not provocate it. So I just like to read debates, because it's interesting to see two completely different viewpoints on the same subject (which is why I also have an extreme interest in economics). The fact of the matter is that this forum is oriented towards teens, and since the majority of our users are in the teen years, expect to see teenage levels of maturity.

We're all ignorant about one thing or another. The fights start when people don't want to admit it, or accept the slightest idea that there might be holes in their argument. The problem with science is that is modelling the way we observe things, and everybody has a different perception, but what is literal fact gets disputed thanks to the tons of theories out there.
