Still, you're using derogatory terms. It really isn't needed here.

-removes one quote where you were telling someone the censored words-

I wouldnt class CENSORED as a derogatory term as african americans often call there friends "CENSORED", eg: "Yo CENSORED whats up".

So if they are willing to call it themselves then its hardly derogatory for them now is it?

Also if CENSORED is filtered as it is seen as derogatory, then why not Honkey, thats a racial slur for white people, seems a little unfair to me.

    That's enough!

We all know that it is possible to dodge the filters! THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU SHOULD! It was fine when people were just testing it, but everybody knows what words are filtered now!

Anybody who is dodging filters in this thread anymore WILL be given a warning. I don't care that you are able to make the 'F' word show up even when it is filtered! Grow up.

This is your verbal warning dry.gif

So if I call my friend a 'mother f***er', like 'Sup my mother f***er!', that suddenly makes it okay? No, it doesn't. The word you are using is inappropriate and unnecessary.

Alright- fine. But of all the quotes I listed, how many are posted by black people? I can't really say they are African American's, because a lot of them are simply Americans, or some may not even be in America. Take a look at danupsher's old topics.

It is just a term that I think should not be allowed on the board. If that is allowed can I start calling people towel heads? How about chinks? Hell, how about I start ripping on gay people.

But you see that is derogatory as they do not call themselves that.
Alot of black people call their friends nigga, but then get pissed if you call them it.
Why reffer to your friends something you do not wish to be called by everyone, makes no sense.

Also notice how none of the derogatory terms you just said for other races are not filtered, It could be said that Neocodex is being racist with these filters by protecting one race and not another, as it is filtering out a so called derogatory word for black people, but not for any other race.
Another reason that the filters should be removed i guess.

You're right, they are filtering out the most commonly used derogatory term. Use the search feature and chink has only been said a few times. And, oh my God, a cokiwah called himself a chink! That makes it completely acceptable to use on these boards. Towel head has only been said several times too. Its not a commonly used term, but it is no different than the word you are defending.

Not only that, but these words like bark and bitch are used offensively, calling someone a bitch, or saying "bark you", all offensive terms. Therefor, using them in day to day talk seems not only absurd, but just plain rude.

Ok so please tell me how "shit, Ive just blown £100 on something i didnt need" is offensive to anyone?

Its not hurting anyone, its a way of expressing how you feel, its the same as saying "crap" but with more emphasis.

Seriously, i would say atleast 70% of society dont give a crap about people swearing anymore, and the people who do need to stop taking things so literally and just realise that profanitys are just words, if it wasn't for the whole "omg thats a swear words oh noes" aura to them, no one would care when they are used, the only reason few people do care is because they see them as something bad when all they are is a stream of letters.

I mean im not all against the "swear" filter itself, i would prefer it if nothing was filtered as i belive in free speech but if its going to stay, atleast do it properly, and block all racial slurs, not just ones against black people, also block any derogatory terms and make them alot harder to bypass, otherwise there is absoulty no point.

I agree with you there. The racial slurs and other derogatory terms (Example: the one Danupsher posted) should be censored. Swear words I'm borderline on, because I use them at times. 1we8.gif

But there is a point when you can overdo it. It would be tough to enforce a rule on swearing in one situation and not another, and then its just up to the moderator, which may lead to some nastier things being said about a moderator/member about how they handled the situation. On the other side, I'm not really for censoring everything. I feel that takes away a bit too much. Really, it's a catch-22.

I'm sorry, but I honestly don't think I can explain it to you. Honestly, one swear word and I'm not really offended, but 5 or 6 and I find it just rude. There are people out there that talk like "and I was talking to that motha barka and lended his ass some of my shit", and that's why I want the filters. Honestly, I was one of the ones that got it put back on. After seeing one of cody's post where bark was in every single sentence, it honestly disgusted and I asked sl if we can put the filters back on because I rather hear him bark like a dog than continue with that kind of profanity.

I honestly just can't believe you guys give curse words such status. To you they are simply sentence enhancers. I just can't even comprehend why someone would elevate them to such a status considering what they are actually used for nearly 50% of the time.

The trouble with you Josh, is you see a "swear" word as something bad, and not what it is, its just a word, also you feel it is ok to try and take away someone elses freedom of speech, just because you do not like some of the words they choose to use?

Im not going to bother trying to explain to you anymore, as your just too stubborn to accept other peoples views, nearly everyone in this topic has gone against you, and yet you continue with the same argument that has had many flaws pointed out in it.

People will always do stuff the pisses other people off, things in life are always going to annoy you, and instead of whinging about it, perhaps just accept that these things happen.

The trouble with you calum, is that you don't respect other's beliefs. You don't realize that some people see profanity for what it is, rude and crude. You don't understand that some people think that it's inappropriate to use a word that is commonly used in an offensive statement in day to day talk. You don't know what the "spirit of the law" is, and just because some of us have different thoughts then you we don't get any recognition at all?

See, we can both play that game. The problem I see most on this board is that because someone is not quick to jump over to the otherside because the majority is there, makes you a stubborn close minded bigot. Honestly, there are a lot of people on this board who negate the use of profanity, but you just simply refuse to see that. And please calum, since this is the first time I have actually seen you in this topic, if you would be so kind as to point out the "flaws" in my argument it would help me out very much.

Well if this is the first time you have seen me in this topic, i suggest you look harder, as i have posted several times in here.

And may i just say, i do respect other peoples beliefs, but when that belief goes against my freedom of speech, i feel i must excersise my right to change there belief.
And you cannot say that "You don't realize that some people see profanity for what it is, rude and crude." because that is a matter of opinon, and not fact, so infact that statment is invalid.
You could say that "Some people see profanity as rude and crude" and yes i would agree with that, some people do, but then again i could say "Some people (aka the Nazis) saw the Jews as disgusting" does this mean that people do not have the right to be Jewish?
    Ofcourse it doesn't.

Please come back to me when you have a solid argument, rather than picking at straws smile.gif

My statement was not invalid, I said people see profanity for what it is, meaning that profanity is the act of saying something rude or crude, which is in fact true.

If you want to be like that:
Your statement is invalid, you cannot say that my argument was not solid because that's subjective, instead you should have said "Come back to me with a better argument", because that implies you personally are dissatisfied with my argument and you are requesting one that will actually satisfy you.

For one, i can say the statment is invalid, as some people may like profanity, so therefore it is a matter of opinion.

And your argument was not solid, that is a fact, as i picked out holes in it.

So both my statements were valid tyvm smile.gif

No, that's not a fact, because right now I believe that my argument is solid because I have negated all your supposable "holes".

So, sorry, both your statements were invalid, for the second time.

Josh the defention of profanity is "Profanity is a word choice or usage which its audience considers to be offensive"

Now if said audience doesnt mind "swear" words, it is not profanity.

To be honest you dont have to look very hard to see holes in your argument, Swear words are nothing bad anymore, everyone uses them, you cannot honestly say you have never swore, so why would you want it to be filtered.

Just because something goes on for a long time doesn't it makes it right. And everyone uses them? Well firstly not everyone, and secondly the majority isn't necessarily right.

It's fine to defend your opinion, it's just getting into a debate to prove who is more right than a discussion about what should be done.
