Quadro video cards aren't for average users. They're mostly for video editing, graphic design, etc. Get a laptop with an integrated video card, since you're not planning to play games (are you?), it would save you 50-200 bucks.

Also get the AMD Turion Proc. Bad ass 64 bit. Better than a barking Intel any day!

Core 2 Duo supports 64-bit architecture as well (its the Core Duo that doesn't). However, I think AMD is better too. tongue.gif

If you are going in the low end AMD stomps Intel (At least in desktops), but mid-high end Intel stomps AMD, especially with the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quads. I don't know if this is applicable to laptops at all, but thats how desktops are smile.gif

I'm taking a Dual Major in Astronautics Engineering and Physics, they said the graphics card was the absolute minimun. The list I posted on the bottom was copy and pasted from an e-mail from the department.

There is a whoooooole lot of cards that has 256 MB built into a graphics card. I don't see why they would give only a MB requirement- Requiring a certain video card or better would be much easier, unless it was to a computer illiterate person wink.gif

I think GO is Nvidia's laptop GPUs. A 7600 with 256 is probably all you will need assuming no gaming is being done- You may even be able to go lower.

i would suggest going to http://forum.noteboo...isplay.php?f=16 and filling out the questionnaire, they should be able to help you get the best laptop for your budget.

Edit- to bring the price down i would recommend buying the lest amount of memory possible and buying the amount you want online

AMD is a silly idea for laptops, they are notoriously hot and the space for the processor on the mobo is small and compact. Over heating is a known fact for all laptops especially AMD ones.

Mac - For that money the MacBook is a good bet, get the stock model and upgrade it yourself its so so so easy. Documentation actually comes with it.

lol the Core 2 Duo's stomp the AMD's in every way. Cooler, faster, and more efficient. The Quadro GPU's are made for drafting, graphic design, architects, things like that, the regular geforce 7/8 series is made for gaming / home use

Yes very old AMD's are extremely hot, newer AMD's are cooler than P4's but hotter than any of the Intel "Core" series

Guys, I really wasn't trying to turn this into a computer debate =/ I was just trying to find a laptop with the above specifications for a cheap price =/ I really don't have too many ways to deviate from those specifications. I've still been searching and have yet to make one for cheaper than 1350 =/ I would go with different specs, but that is what is required =/

But thanks for the input all, I've read it and will remember it when I buy my spare laptop =]

Most of the time Dell has extremely good coupons, that are stackable

for instance, I saved a little over 400 bucks from coupons with Dell smile.gif however, im not sure dell provides quadro's, so you would have to look into that, and im sure they would if you called or emailed

Yea, I have a discount as well from my school for buying Dell products, it's priced at around 1700 but with the discounts and such it's 1250-1300, depending on if I want the glossy screen.

Thanks for the help though =]
