We have two more problems to address in this news post. Listen up.

Spam:
QUOTE
tongue.gif

If this is your entire post, then it is considered SPAM. Here at Neocodex, you do not instantly get warned for spamming but instead you get your post removed. If this happens too many times, the staff has been known to issue warns for blatant neglect to follow the rules, but generally for spam we are quite lenient. However, I'll have you know that it's annoying a lot of us.

Another type of spam is the kind where you quote someone's post above you and include no insight of your own. This is pretty much the equivalent to the whole "QFE" thing, however, if you are going to 'quote for emphasis', please explain why instead of just doing it without providing any insight to make the post yours. Anyone who does this also runs the risk of getting invisibilized posts and future warns for being straight-up annoying to staff.

Harassment:
Lately, we have been graceful in giving everyone light verbal warnings that what they are doing is harassment and it should stop. Now, I believe that because awareness has increased that it is a growing problem, verbal warns are going to become a thing of the past. Verbal warns are meant to enlighten the violator that what they are doing is against the rules and that they run the risk of receiving a warn next time.... but I think some members been "enlightened" way too many times for verbal warns to be effective. Henceforth, if you are involved in a case of harassment that the receiving member does not appreciate, it will be considered a violation of the rules and warns will be issued depending on the severity, just like they are supposed to.

Also, if you are a Private Member and aren't acting like one, redlion and the Admins can boot you out of Private as it's not a right. Same goes for Retired. I think the rule-abiding members should hold such distinctions as they act like proper role models.

I think it's really simple to avoid the consequences though... just stop the harassing already. We're not the Admins of MSN or AIM or Google Talk, so maybe take your quarrels on there instead? Not really sure what to suggest, other than to take it away from Neocodex.us.

Consider this a clean slate. I may have threatened demotion in the past, but I've got admin backing on this one. Act in a manner unbecoming of your rank, and I'll bust you down to member before you can so much as think the word 'unfair'.

Would posting "shameless spam" or the like on a topic you KNOW will be deleted soon (for example, something from an adbot) be "unbecoming of a private member"?

If so, I'll cut it out. tongue.gif

Harassment should be a no brainer. I know I and a lot of others say that, but I also know we all have our moments (I've flamed before, myself, but only when struck upon, so to speak. Even then it's been incredibly rare). Regardless, I've seen an unnecessary amount on the boards lately, that goes far above and beyond a few members "having their moment."
Fights on the internet are like the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded (cliched and old, I know, but it still applies here).

    Just my two cents smile.gif

EDIT: As I've said before, I really think that the standard of posting at Codex needs to be raised. None of this "No spam guys, srsly, cut it out." We should start giving out warnings for posts which don't contribute to the thread, which include the posts with just one or two words, just a smiley, etc.
Before posting, ask yourself: "Will I be contributing to this thread? Will I be bringing any opposing viewpoints? Can I express my opinion in a clear, concise manner?"
If you can't say yes to any of the above, don't post. It's not hard.

    Again, just my two cents.

EDIT AGAIN: Admins and staff, stop focusing so much on the number of posts. It just encourages people to spam more. A "WOOOO, 800k POSTS! ONLY 200K MORE TILL WE HIT A MILLION! WOOOO KEEP POSTING GUYS" topic, especially in the News/Announcements section is counterproductive to what this announcement is get across. We'll hit 1 million posts eventually. The board has been around over 3 years. It's not going anywhere. Quit being in such a hurry tongue.gif

About that last paragraph.. I think Kitsune said that even if it happened off boards it's still punishable because they're codex members?

Edit: never mind, it was for scamming. i still don't think it should be punishable because it didn't happen on the boards though.

    Neither do I.
Seriously, Codex members are going to do what they want. You can't expect to police their every action. If they do something on the board, then punish them accordingly. Off the board, the staff has NO jurisdiction, and never has. The only possible exception I can to this is in the case of leaking, and other similar situations.
A NeoCodex Member is not part of some "elite organization, handpicked by a select few." We aren't bound to rules in every aspect of our life, only while on this board. Also note I said member only. Private (and other such ranks) and up are expected to be overall decent people. If it's known they're complete pricks to everyone off the board, and doing crap like scamming and the like, then yeah. Demote their ass. They clearly don't deserve the position they applied and were selected for.

    *steps off his soapbox*

I am clearly in a ranting mood, tonight tongue.gif

It's a problem though at least in my opinion where back about a year ago we had an incident where a person was handing out the "jenny buyer" scamming people using neocodex user's msns that is accessed by being a member at this site. It is then that I truly believe we have every right to ban this said person. And honestly if that person is doing that on MSN to our members it becomes a question of... do we REALLY want this person on our site? tongue.gif

    I made a news post about this: http://www.neocodex....ted-t71912.html tongue.gif

And yeah, I have to agree... I do get preoccupied with number of posts in a day sometimes, and I shouldn't be that worried about it. What really makes the community is the quality of those posts and how much worthwhile discussion is actually happening.

I think some of this harasment might have been bought on by me, In a few of my post's I accasoinally swore at another member jokingly not meaning to offend the person. It's just the fact that my hiatus from codex and my activeness on other site's (Where rules are hardly and issue) I got into a habit where I knew it was right there, and doing that over and over for 3 - 4 month's catches on to you.

I'm trying to stop it, but then again im not trying to full stop it. Because if I stop fully, i'll have an system to accasionally lash out in burst's. However if I keep just a little bit, I can just really in a little way vent my frustration's in a few minor word's then simply have a tongue.gif smilie at the end as a joking sense. But if I lose it all completely i'll turn into the suckup I once was and when I dont get my way I'd just vent into one entire topic not being able to undo what I had said.

Anyway, long story short. I'm sorry =)

Where's the fun without a little harassment and spam? Seriously, I can understand blatant hate wars being banned, and uber spam, but without spam and a little poke at people here and there, this forums going to become as bland as rice cakes (the nasty English ones that taste like cardboard).

While I'm not sure the threat of losing a rank will keep the ranking members in line, it's good to know the reputation of the rank won't be tarnished by their ongoing presence within it happy.gif. Just lately I've been into a couple of topics and winced at the state of some privvies tongue.gif.

I agree, arguing and disagreeing is entertaining to some, and a part of life, not everybody can agree 100%, or even 80%. Small arguments should be allowed but if it goes on and on and on and gets extreme, then it should be removed.

Internet spam is like the figuritive spam, by itself its not to great, but if you add some stuff maybe change the way its cooked
    and it becomes exceptable.

    my metaphors are magical.

what im trying to say is a little bit of spam is needed to keep the funny and appease the hatefuls.
without people to show their character it would kind of be odd to come here and have a conversation.
i would be funny though to see some one type. processing your comment.

blink.gif yes ur probobally right but then again what if the person is doing the best they can?? you know i dont think thats really fair to semote someone because they didnt do what they have had to do in so much time things take time and sometimes when we're rushed perfection isnt as good as it could be...
