Surely a university should be the one place where free speech should be safe...and Tasering an unarmed person (who was already on his back with a number of police on top of him)? Very disturbing...

Land of the free indeed.

    1. He didn't have a pass to be there and wouldn't stop yelling after repeatedly being told to.
    2. the cops tried to subdue him and he kept screaming and flailing his arms at them. They said quit moving or you're going to get tasered. He didn't listen.
    3. Next time, when they don't take him down, it'll turn out that he has a gun.

I agree, if that kid had gone and killed someone it would have been the laws fault for not dealing with him properly. The police just can't win.

It's better than listening to a John Kerry speech.

yeah, although i usually don't side with cops on anything, the guy was pretty out of hand. i mean, you can make scathing points without having to yell or flail about like a madman.

    I'm English, not British.

And I think you'll find that it isn't just England who dislikes America. biggrin.gif I would say at least 1/3 of the world dislikes America and what it stands for.

While I don't agree with his arrest just for him drilling Kerry... the kid was resisting arrest quite strongly and running away from the police and struggling constantly. They couldn't subdue him so they had to taser him because otherwise as others have said it's very possible many bad things could happen. However he was also asked to cut it shorter a minute and a half apparently before he was taken by police but he continued. It's unfortunate but these things can happen everywhere. People try to go by their best judgment and sometimes it's right, sometimes it's wrong.

    This is barking retarded.

He has the right to speak freely. He has the right to demand answers from a public official. The police had no reason to react in the way they did. He was simply posing questions to the horse, there is nothing illegal in that.

Though, he should have complied with the police. As the law is written, you MUST comply to anything an officer tells you (within reason). He resisted arrest, although the arrest was unwarranted, he was still resisting.

This kind of shit makes me sick.

Nothing wrong? He wasn't even allowed in there. There are pre-approved lists for these things and he wasn't on it. He wasn't simply posing questions, he was asking them repeatedly and wouldn't stop even after Kerry wanted him to. If they wouldn't have taken him down, he'd have kept on and kept on screaming like a moron.

He didn't ask repeatedly from what I was hearing. He was having difficulty in finishing his questions due to them trying to cut him off. He only began screaming when it became apparent that the questions were only going to be dodged. And, in a public forum (I realize this was not public, but it was still a forum scenario) you can not have your opposition simply removed because you don't like the questions they asked.

You have your opposition removed by having a list of selected students show up...he wasn't on that list. That's my problem. If people ask certain questions, it's not constructive.

What if he'd said, "John, why do you like dick so much?"

Would it have been ok to remove him now since you don't like his question?

They had absolutely no reason or justification to arrest him, and to suggest that he could have been able to get a gun into a John Kerry speech is ridiculous. I'm sure they had to go through high security to get in. It isn't the English who have a superiority complex, it is the worthless police force of the United States that does.

Your point is invalid because such a question serves no political/economic purpose. And I am anti-RSVP speeches/forums, it goes against democracy/republic ways of thinking. What's next? Only you guys can come and vote?

Trespassing and resisting arrest... in the presence of an important elected official. I don't think the tasering was called for but the rest of it certainly was, and I won't be getting my panties in a bunch about it.

He wasn't supposed to be there, and was only up asking the questions in the first place because Kerry said "I'll answer them". Then he went beyond his time, and was told to leave. He did not leave. They tried to move him. He wouldn't go. They tried to cuff him. He wouldn't let them. They tasered him and took him away.

What's especially funny is that he's flailing around like an idiot while saying "I'M NOT DOING ANYTHING, I'M NOT DOING ANYTHING". Not doing anything would be classified as not flailing around and resisting while an officer is trying to remove you.

    Well... I agree with that.

And to whoever quoted the part about the officers getting leave with pay- Isn't that basically a vacation? blink.gif

Perhaps they're basically forcing them on vacation (I don't know how that one works). I think it's a good move because they don't want to punish the officers but they also don't want them to be working in such a unstable time where they may be targeted. At least I think that's how it works.

Well, that's not the intent. They would only give them leave in order to investigate the matter, and they shouldn't be present on the force during their own investigation. However, they haven't been found guilty of wrongdoing yet, so you can't just pull away their income. It's not to give them a vacation, rather just keep them away from their own investigations into their own behavior.
