...okay so I knew coffee drinks were bad for me but I never knew how bad.

QUOTE
Coffee cup
Milk is one of the reasons some cups of coffee had so many calories

Counting the calories
The coffee you grab on the way to work may contain up to a fifth of your daily recommended calories, a study says.

Some of those tested by Which? topped the scales at almost 400 calories.

Researchers said lashings of full-fat milk, cream and chocolate are the culprits with a skimmed milk cappuccino weighing in at fewer than 30 calories.

The consumer group also found that a burger would be a healthier option than some coffee house snacks after testing products from three leading chains.

Some of you coffee lovers might want to know this. I figured a cup of coffee from starbucks was probably about as much as a can of soda or a bit more but I never factored in the amount of fat that's in those things. Problem is most coffee companies default on whole milk which to me is essentially skim. I also never knew the whipped creme made that much of a difference either. Some of you guys might point this out as a DUH but you never thing that a burger is healthier at all with less calories. I'm actually rather disgusted with myself now as I used to drink those all the time v_v Sugar free/fat free latte it is.

Discuss hidden calories in your diet that you want to kick yourself for.

Well, I was shocked to find that chewing bacon instead of gum was bad for my health.

But in all seriousness, I cannot think of any that I found OUT are bad, but can name a few I am not sure I want to know the actual affects it has on my health. That would just ruin the illusion xD

I do not have them very often, but I LOVE Italian cream sodas. Get tons of whipped cream on there, it is so good. Not sure I actually want to the caloric intake of any of that jazz xD

And Starbucks coffee is more like an ice scream sundae with a bit of coffee spilled into it.

Actually I quite agree. I've become really fond of earl grey as a kind of dessert tea. It's really great with fat free half and half and splenda tongue.gif *yes I know I ruin it*

And oh god yes, creme sodas! ...and no, you don't want to know the calories of those. I'll let you live in the bliss of ignorance. I think in some cases with certain things we all should biggrin.gif

I can't understand coffee. =( Taste like crap, no mater how much you pay, and doesn't really wake me up or anything.

Tea = what? 90% water or so? Maybe more? Don't really like it either. =/

Me and a few friends used to hang out at the local Starbucks though. Was a pool hall / Starbucks though. Over priced shit, tbh.

Thats not completely true. Some people like fish, and if you ignore the mercury in it, it is good for you! But, if you deep fry it with the breading and everything, its bad for you!

Basically, people fuck up the healthiness for added flavor.

My mother always encouraged my sister and I (rather disturbingly) with a "moment on the lips, forever on the hips" and "nothing tastes as good as thin feels" *sigh* I should just eat Indian food all day. At least they eat somewhat healthy sad.gif

Most of what comes out of Indian takeaways is really not healthy at all. tongue.gif If you leave a curry for 10 minutes all the fat coagulates. biggrin.gif

No, not curry. Things like Palak Aloo (not that healthy), lentil soups, Aloo Matter, and Baigan Bhartha all have pretty low calories. I don't ever eat meat when I eat Indian food.

Yes, yes Joe. I am not british.

Unless you make it at home and know exactly what goes into it, I wouldn't trust an Indian restaurant to give you exactly what you are ordering it. You don't want to know what is in there sometimes...or how old it is...

    I don't drink coffee.

I am really bad with my tea though.... I usually make myself a warm cup of tea in the afternoon in my big pokemon mug, but... well... I suppose a better statement would be to say I like a little tea with my sugar.

what can I say. I like my tea sweet. 1we8.gif

The only thing that could make a near perfect beverage like hot chocolate even better is peppermint, srsly. If you cannot find the pre-minted, just buy your own minty stuff to put in, it really increases the flavor.

And as far as tea goes, I drink herbal tea happy.gif I am rather fond of a strawberry rooibos type thing =D Don't mock me for not being familiar with particular names of teas =P

I'm joining the apparent legions of codexians who don't like coffee. XD
I don't really like it... although I DO like the Starbuck's Mocha Frappes. Mostly because it reminds me of Tiramisu and there's chocolate in it. But on the whole, I can't drink Coffee. I CAN drink Cowboy Coffee though, which is like, 7/8ths a cup of milk, and and 1/8th a cup of coffee with sugar thrown in to taste. happy.gif

Bah, I sort of live on the, "Hey, if it tastes good I'll eat it" diet anyway. XD

lol I am going to have to be one of the ones to say Duh. I mean I get that you can just not see it all adding up, but you have to have known that putting cream, sugar and full fat milk along with chocolate is going to mean it's a treat, not a daily item. I have coffee about once or twice a week, light soy milk (or trim milk if I don't feel like soy) with a small amount of chocolate (half the normal amount put into the chocolate drinks at work) and a coffee shot or two. I don't see the need to put in cream, sugar or syrups.

Well it was coffee in general. For example my school doesn't have skim for coffee, they have creme. They don't even have soy blink.gif So I try not to use too much creme in my coffee and only use fake sugar but still. Basically this made me realize if that's how much is in those drinks then my coffee I sometimes get must be awful too. Curse my school sad.gif

...oh yes and curse french class. I just discovered I am spelling cream the french way which I might as well go hang myself now.

Wow, what skewed biased data. The data given is conveniently vague.
How large was the coffee? How much milk was added? How much sugar/sweetener was added? Was there whip cream on it?

I highly doubt the average person's coffee is anywhere near 400 calories.
And also.. Starbucks allows you to add your own milk and they offer skim/fat-free/and half and half. So tongue.gif
