It doesn't kill sperm, last I read, the only thing it does at all is POSSIBLY lower your sperm production for the duration of the effects of the drug (a couple hours)

Or not... my human development textbook said that it absolutely positively lowers the sperm count (and not just for the duration either but while you actively use it as THC builds up and shizz). It's common knowledge now. Which may or may not be a good thing depending on your perspective. A lot of drugs actually make your sperm malformed too which I find to be rather interesting. Normally the harder drugs of course but it leads to birth defects if they zygote even survives the DNA combination and doesn't spontaneously abort because it's so messed up.

Btw... in fertility clinics one of the first things they ask you supposedly is if you do drugs at all just because of the reason that it makes it harder to reproduce. But you are right. It doesn't KILL sperm, but it certainly does lower the production of it.

I c whut you did thar. I wish the amount of talking about it was lower and less of a spectacle for those who talk about it, but I also wish that those who didn't do drugs would not sometimes attack the characters of those who do.

It's true, it's been fairly well studied, and I cannot deny it. If you have fear for your infertile possibilities, you may not want to try it. Most of us, especially in this age, have little to worry about though. I need more motivation other than "I have to have more sex to have a baby"/"I have to have artificial insemination" to provoke a change in my ways.

There's so much in this thread I wish I could have replied to. However, I was way too late and people got there before me =[. I smoke occasionally and I definitely think it has had a positive impact on my life. It pushed me towards meditation, and I honestly don't believe I would be meditating now had it now been for experiences while high. It taught me a lot about myself and about other people. I have been able to go deeper into my mind and realize what I need to be happy (not meaning drugs. things like drawing, writing, etc). It helped build me some friendships (no that's not why I started) that have lasted way beyond the removal of the drug from the setting.

I'm ranked 11th (should be in top 10 for sure next year) in my class.

I certainly believe that pot can be a bad thing if it is used too often. However, this is the case with nearly everything so just because pot has the possibility of becoming a problem does not mean it should be condemned. Moderation is key. Know yourself.

Why would you suggest he not TRY it if he's fearing for his fertility or whatever? It's not like doing it once is gonna have much impact at all.

the THC that builds up in your body, I read somewhere is 11-hydroxy-tetrahydrocannabinol, a metabolite of the main psychoactive, delta-9-THC... that's out of your system, if I recall correctly, very soon after the effects have worn off, so shouldn't the metabolites not lower your sperm count? Because there's no true delta-9-thc in your system after a couple of hours... I would think, that anyone doing enough weed to significantly lower their sperm count, is high for quite a lot of the time... so as far as I can tell, occasional/social use wouldn't have any significant damaging effects on the sperm count... and besides, your sperm count should fix up after you're clean for a week or two, depending on frequency of use, shouldn't it?

And I never knew about the malformed sperm. I also find that intriguing. I've always wondered, what if someone was pregnant, and was CONSTANTLY under the VERY heavy influence of high doses of LSD, would their babies come out mutated? Now that'd be an absolutely horrid thing to experiment with, but you can't deny that it's damned interesting...

I have never and will never do drugs. Not only do I have a high moral standard, it has damaging affects on the brain, especially if you're under 24. I can find much better things to do and much better things to spend my money on. I see nothing glorifying about using drugs and it's just over all bad for you. Sure it may help some patients but over all the bad effects out weight the very few goods.

I've actually gone so far as to refuse to date anyone that does drugs. I just really don't need it in my life than it already is. I've had problem with my siblings and stuff over it.

Haha. Guess I should've said illegal drugs but then again I'm against smoking too. Basically, smoking, crack, cocaine, heroine, ect. Also prescription drug abuse. Such as those people who like to buy Oxicotin or whatever it is off of people.

    Caffiene is my kriptonite, unfortunatly.

Well that's a pretty bad generalization, to say all drugs have damaging effects on the brain...
