What is the definition of an ape these days?

We are apes. Ape essentially means the family tree of Hominoids or whatever the hell it is. I'm just remembering from my anthro class. So essentially we DID evolve from apes if you consider the previous namings ex: homo erectus, homo habilis, etc.
