Well I was thinking, maybe NeoCodex should have our own irc server It's not that hard to set up, I can do it if needed, and it is a way for many users to communicate instantly. It could also be a good opportunity for publicity, if wanted.

It completely defeats the purpose of the forums. I for example enjoy talking with tetiel. Me and tetiel seem to have conflicting interests. How would I contact tetiel if she said everything via a IRC? Yes I know they'd still have the option to post here, but chances are high that many members wouldn't post as much as they'd spend more time on the irc.

Yeah, I agree. We had problems with people spamming it last time also. Let's just keep all of the activity on the board.

Now, if we had a weekly TRIVIA chat as a fun activity, that's a different matter. I think that would actually be quite entertaining.

Never thought about it decreasing activity on forums. I was thinking so maybe with an irc server, we could also code an irc client into programs, so while you are running programs there could maybe be an instant chat at the bottom of it. Or something like that. I see the cons though.

It really isn't a bad idea, but if it were to happen, I think it should be a weekly sort of deal, like a "Fun Night." As suggested above, a Trivia game room would be very entertaining, and I think that could be successful as it's done weekly and wouldn't interfere with activity on the site.

Weekly wouldn't be bad I suppose, though it does cost money monthly ;p not much though.

We may do it in the future if we can do it right . Right now our focus and concentration is on the forum and building it to be great but in the future it is definitely a possibility .

I like the idea, Codex is the only online forum that I've been on that has trouble having an IRC server successfully. I guess the type of people that join codex differ too much from the type of people who join the other forums I go on. But yes I wont deny that it failed pretty badly last time it was attempted. Maybe when Codex grows to twice its current size

I think a shoutbox would be good for now. My idea is that you would have to be in neocodex for atleast a month to use it to prevent people spamming bad things on it.
