In the advent of Focus magazine believing that although your avatar may not have a noticable relation to your own personality it does affect how you see yourself online. That the introduction of a virtual world can have such deep psychological effects that a withdrawal addiction and symptoms can be seen.

What do you think?

I eblieve that although my vrtual self is not entirely truthful it is as close as it can be from a first person view.

mine portrays an ignorant, airy and free spirited personality for which I have come to display within codex.

is this really me? who knows.

I have a different personality in all the forums I go to.

Mine is just to show my love for the band Alexisonfire.. although I'm not as much of a fan as I was when I first chose the avatar, I just can't seem to convince myself to change it.

My avatar is a darkened, blurred, abstract, but outspoken image of me.
At the time of creating this avatar, I guess those adjectives fit me fairly well.
More of my real personality has shown out recently on the board though, I'm not just the heartless *chan nerd most people thought I was tongue.gif

In terms of all your avatars there is a lot of variation, i liked ink and foogies replies. That the kind of discussion i wanted to start.

Fanbase avatars are very different, they are based soelely on interest, but why you like those bands is more interesting. FYI i love alexisonfire.

I am pretty much the same person online as I am in person, or atleast I think so? I am not the type of person to really change myself to fit in with a certain group. A forum is no different tongue.gif

I just thought my avatar looked cool. But maybe it shows that I wanna fight a bunch of people with a stick?

My avatar is just things I draw. Currently it was for this one girl's contest on devart. However before then I tended to have something either cute or funny depending on what I liked. For example in the past I had an avatar which explained the horrible pain of a red shirt in the original star trek xD I also once had 'Crazy Jack Face' (only hardcore fans of lost will know what I mean). To be honest I don't really act too much different online instead of offline. I think a lot of people change online because they have reservations about their personal selves. Whenever I play a game I try to pick a character which looks the most like myself if you want to go towards that avatar. Pretty much it means I'm happy being me. I have no fantasy about being a person which I am not.

    Haha, just as i thought!

Id say yours shows an insecurity with yourself as its not a picture of yourself. I could be wrong.

Im quite the opposite - my personality seems to alter to fit into groups. A personality flaw probably, or not having a personality strong enough.

And thats great, a sign of a truly strong personality. I tend to choose a character which looks mildly like myself as well, although i do tend to change depending on the forum, and group of friends.
