Have you ever wondered how those people that say "My computer's too slow to restock" make neopoints? Sure, they could play games for hours on end or watch their stocks rise and fall constantly, but that's B-O-R-I-N-G! Perhaps, just maaaybe, they do something else? Reselling would probably be their only other choice to take, and it just so happens that it's the second fastest route to quick NP (versus Restocking)!

What is Reselling?
Reselling is buying an item from other users, generally on the trading post chat, for a lot lower than you can sell it for.

Wait a minute... if I can sell it higher, why shouldn't they?
Good question! The answer is simple: they want a quick profit. It may take a while to sell it for a higher price, so they sell for cheap instead!

Alright, so what should i buy it for?
This really depends on what you're buying. If it's, for example, a r98 Painted Morphing Potion, a little less than half is what to offer. If it's the same thing except R99, offer a b it more. It all depends. Generally, the higher the rarity the less of a discount you should try to buy for.

Ange (Kitsune) has suggested to go about 50% of asking price for painted morphing potions, and about 20% on furniture.

If it's an extremely easy to sell avatar item, don't go more than 10% lower than asking price, that may be considered insulting.

For TCG's, most sellers will take about 20-30% asking price, if it's a high dollar (Asking price in the 700k+ range)

If it's a low (600k down) dollar, offer maybe 40% what others are asking. But keep in mind, these are the hardest to sell out of all.

Most BD items can get you a discount of around 60-70%, since they're relatively ETS.

What items are good to buy?
Anything, really! I like to go for Painted Morphing Potions, since they're generally quick and are an avatar item. Any avatar item you can get cheap is great! If you want a higher discount (Like, say, a 1 mil item for 200k), then you'll probably be getting some HTS furniture. This will take a while longer to sell, but there's always someone looking to buy! You'll just have to wait smile.gif

Alright, so I bought my item. Now what?
Put it in the trading post with your price, and adv ertise! No one's gonna buy if they don't know about it! If you have an avatar item, advertise it in the Avatar Chat. If it's a piece of furniture, try the Neohome Chat. If it's a rare plushie, perhaps there's a gallery owner in the Spotlights Chat that needs to buy? Get out there and sell!

But... no one's coming to my boards!
Okay, this is where you've gotta get crafty. You can't have a board like "Selling ~~~~~~!" and hope to get people attracted! Spice your title up a little, first of all. Add a couple of smileys. Now, don't get out of hand! "*clap*:**lol*Selling ~~~~ smile.gif sad.gif *angry*~~~~*clap*" is waay too much. Keep it down to one or two simple things, probably best to be at the beginning of your title.

Now, for the inside of your post. Again, do'nt make it simply "Selling ~~~~~~~~", but don't over crowd it either. Add a few smileys, maybe a couple of jokes here and there. Be sure to mention how high your competitor's prices are and why they should buy your product. Don't be pushy, though!

You also may want to check galleries with the Shopwizard, and see if they're interested in your item.

Some good fundamentals in this guide, I think you could develop it much further though. Maybe recommending what percentage of the real price for a few different type of items.
For furniture you'd offer less, because you have to wait much longer, and the seller will probably be desperate to get rid of it. So you might recommend offering 20% of the asking price for furniture.
Unlike a morphing potion which is easier to get rid of. So you'll offer 50% of the regular price.

Maybe include some tips on effective advertising?

Otherwise you've just said to offer low and sell high...

On a side-note, your font is really difficult to read, could you please change it to something a little easier: making it bigger for a start.

Better? tongue.gif

Yeah, you've got some good points there tongue.gif I'll spiff it up a bit.

You may want to also try lots that have lots of items. People tend to sell for cheaper. Say its a lot of 7 petpets. Offer the value total of 4-5 of them.

*note* pb's for the most part are extremely ETS and I typically offer 80% of tp value. Although they may not make the most profit per item you can do quite well with them depending on how active you are.

Reselling is a respectable method to make profit imo. However, you have to do it smartly.

Focus on items that have fluctuating prices and/or rare HTS.

Just a while ago, Ylanas Blasters would have been a great way to resell. I saw all the pros jump to that. They bought dozens some as many as +50 Ylanas blasters at under 650k.. and sold at the high of 750-800k.

It's essential you jump at these kinds of opportunities if you have the $. When war comes around, invest ALL your money into codestones, weapons, etc.

You could also resell HTS collectables r99, etc. Such items include Full pet armours, rare stamps, etc. You then have to find sellers.. don't be limited to the boards. Look at galleries of people and you might find you have a missing item of their almost complete gallery.

I've made a pretty penny doing such, mostly from wartime.

Bzzzzzt. Wrong. You want to buy those before a war. Then sell once a plot starts or the actual war is going on when prices are at their highest. Otherwise you'll make minimal profit.

Btw, I didn't suggest those percentages, those were hypothetical percentages...

Psh.

The 50% on Painted Mpots as correct, and furniture isn't off from the offers I seen on it...

so good hypothetical percentages xD

this is a good guide. and as an ex-usaber, i can say that i would often take a 20-30% loss to sell the item quickly, and many people will in fact do that.

Jellyneo.net *sometimes* has updated prices tongue.gif You're best bet is to use the Trading Post / Shop Wizard though.

It's a good guide, but lately being a reseller does not work out too well.. Lately everyone I see is a reseller, and I see very few people actually being able to buy the items for the prices you said you should offer. It is fairly unlikely that you will be able to get anything under 50% of the price unless the seller is very desperate, and it is unlikely to get 30%+ under the price for painted MP's. I'm kind of annoyed of resellers usually since they always come into my boards when I'm selling some paint brush and clearly say no resellers and offer me 30% off the TP price, when I can sell it for 5% under easily if I wanted to (I prefer to get the 100% of the asking price).

That's pretty much untrue. I'm a reseller and i've been making close to a million a day if i play for about 6-8 hours. Typically, u buy painted mps at about 50% of the price and still make decent profits... Most mps actually go near TP price if u can bother to wait a few weeks and remember to keep refreshing your trades. Island/Mara/ all the fancy 3m+ pb color mps may price at 3.5m-4m on TP but typically can be bought at 800k-1m. So... u can technically buy them below 30% quite often. But their also very volatile and may deflate a few million within a few weeks. I consider myself lucky if i manage to sell them at 1.6m-2m lol.

Nice tips! Thanks.
I'm a reseller, but I don't know what to offer sometimes... :p
The percentages should be a big help.
