a lot, so all i did was go to www.oldversion.com
and download the old version of msn, in particular version 5 which now works without error for me
no errors for about 2 months.

EDIT:
it can also be your internet like eeyore said.
but if you can access codex i doubt thats the problem

Makes no difference as it connects to the MSN servers. If the MSN program is having trouble connecting to the servers then Pidgin won't be any better. Though I agree that Pidgin is much nicer .
Takes up less screen real estate. I also like adium .
But that's only for a mac .

I use Pidgin on my Linux box, but only because Ubuntu doesn't support MSN directly. ( and aMSN sucks real bad )

i agree with you on that..it's just port issue or connectivity issue. Restart your modem or router and try again.
